Help Sound Quality

Hi, I don't know if it's bad reception or speaker but the sound stinks! I'm always having to ask people to repeat what they said and it's very frustrating. I can have full signal strenth and still can't understand what is said. And no....it's not my hearing because my wife can't stand it for that very reason! lol :D

So am I the only one or are others having this problem?

Thanks in advance for some help. :)

Is this a recent problem or have you been dealing with this for 2 years? Does it sound muffled or distorted or does the audio cut out? How does speakerphone sound?

Yes, I have been dealing with this 2 long years! It kinda sounds more muffled than distored and the speaker sounds clear. A local guy that I know nothing about and just talked to on the phone said that it's a software problem and that he can root it and fix it, but I'm kinda leary about that.

I really hope I can get this fixed because I don't want to buy a new one and back under contract.

I see that you have 2 phones rooted. What are the pros and cons of rooting?
Rooting gives you the ability to do a lot of things. This wiki sums it up nicely:
Why Root - Android Wiki

But like I said in the previous post, I can't think of how root access would solve a speaker issue.

Some users have had success cleaning the speaker via compressed air. Others have reported, that by passing a strong magnet ONLY OVER THE SPEAKER, will clean out any rogue metal fragments.

Lastly you can replace the speaker:

Thanks for the help! I can understand the air and magnet but mine was right out of the box.

Yeah... As you can see from that thread I linked, that was users reporting the same problem as you, right out of the box... Since the phone was still under warranty then, most users had the phone replaced.
