Sound recording app

Hi,
I would like to record a business meeting a few days from now onto my phone.
Would be handy I think, so the need to type everything down doesn't exist.

What app do you recommend?

Your phone should have a voice recorder built in. if not, there are plenty on the market. If you want high quality recording, I recommend Tape Machine. It records directly to wav files, making the recoding very large, but good quality

i don't think an app that records to wav can be considered.
I need to record maybe 5-6 hours straight, so the file would be too big for my memory card I think.

ok well again, your phone should have a sound recorder built in. But of course, you didnt tell us what phone you have, so we cant be sure.

How does one access sound recorder? Rather daft query but I cannot find a way to launch it. The app does appear under settings manage applications. (Motorola xt720 android 2.1).

Thanks

I know what the OP means. Voice Recorder is listed in the app list when you go to manage apps in settings, but it's not in the launch drawer.

That said, I bought Tape Machine and it is by far the best recording app I've come across. Lots of options for recording/converting/sound quality. I've used Tape Machine to record 3 hour lectures at my school, and the file size is MAYBE a gig and a half. I only have a 4gig card that came with my Nexus One, so I actually don't think SD card size would be an issue for you! :)

Don't 'think', check before you assume!
Cudda is right: you can record for hours and hours on an SD card. And get a bigger one if that's still not enough.
Unless you can set it in the app's settings I wouldn't worry about the format. You can always convert it to any format you like later, on your desktop or laptop machine.

BTW: if you'll be recording for hours, you'll need to be tethered to a power outlet of course.

A dedicated dictation machine seems a better fitting tool for the job. Don't hammer in a nail with a screwdriver.

I know this post is a little late for this thread but it might help someone. There is a voice recorder "app" that is indeed on the phone (at least it is on my Optimus V) but does not show up in your APPS drawer. I long pressed on the home screen to add a shortcut then selected activities. You can then scroll through there and find it (Sound Recorder). You then have an extremely basic voice recorder. The files are recorded on your SD card root and you have to access them with a file explorer program. They are .amr files.
