Sounds/Notifications Profile Toggle on the Bionic?

This thread is the result of someone mistakenly merging two threads which were about completely separate questions into one thread.

I am sorry about that (and the confusion it has caused below), but I promise you, I had nothing to do with that merger. It was done without first consulting me about it, and against my wishes.

Anyway, here are the two separate questions which each originally had their own threads...

1. Different Sounds for Separate Accounts in Built-in E-mail App?
Using the regular, built-in e-mail app (not the gmail app or any 3rd-party app), is there a way of setting different notification sounds for each separate e-mail account that I have configured?

I want to have a separate sound for the notifications for each e-mail account. I discovered today that this is possible with a third-party e-mail app (I successfully configured it like this in K9), but is it possible to do this in the built-in e-mail app?

This has been answered = No. It can't be done wit te regular, built-in e-mail app (LINK).

2. Sound Profiles Toggle?
On my BB Storm (POS! except for a few, select features), I was able to quickly and easily change the sound profile of the phone to make it so that it would allow sounds from 'phone calls only' (i.e. not from e-mails or txt msg or reminders or anything else), and then turn it back to normal just as quickly with a link on the 'home screen'.

On the Bionic, I do see how to change volume, and to change whether sound is on or off, but not to individualize it for 'phone calls only' or other options. Is there anything like that on the Bionic?

I am not certain whether this question has been answered yet. I will try to sift through the responses below and figure it out. If I find an answer, I will make not of it here in this OP.

Thanks.

MESSED UP VERSION OF THIS THREAD WHERE TWO THREADS WERE MISTAKENLY MERGED INTO ONE BELOW:

Q8: I'm assuming you do not mean the GMail app, just the regular E-Mail app? I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure on that b/c I do not use the regular email app at all....

Q9: Another use of apps like Locale, Tasker, and Timeriffic. Also, CM7 had this, so it's quite possible that future ROMs for the BIONIC will also have this.

I use an app called Setting Profiles Pro for this. I bought this a long time ago, and I understand that there are other, free apps that can now do the same, though I haven't really searched around the market myself (as I already have an app that can do this.) The app allows you to set rules based on time, location, etc., and the app's widget can be used to quickly choose a profile.

That's the one I keep forgetting.

In truth, from what I've read, SP is the easiest when it comes to learning curves. Locale and Timeriffic are a bit harder (barely) but highly extensible with plugins. Tasker has the steepest learning curve but seems to be the most robust for an app that does almost all of it natively without needing plugins.

I wish I had not bought Locale - but I ave, and I am loathe to use another system until I learn Tasker. But, FWIW - Locale works FLAWLESSLY

Thanks, guys.
I will start checking into these apps this weekend.

I also use profiles pro. Been using it since I left my BB to the original DROID. It does exactly what your looking for.

I have different chimes/sounds for all my different email accounts... With no extra apps or anything (I don't think so, anyway!). Just go into the combined inbox, select each account individually and go into settings, then notifications... Voila!

I use Volume Ace to create profiles. But I still can not find any app that can differentiate between a text message and an email. they are both considered a "Notification". So when I create a nighttime profile which I want to only hear the ringer and texts (I want to silence emails), its just not possible. You either have to hear or silence all notifications which includes the texts and emails.

If you are using the Gmail app, you could use an app like Setting Profiles Full to turn off data sync overnight. Locale may also allow this; I think Tasker does as well. You'd still get texts and phone calls, and with sound on they would ring, but Gmail sync would stop, so no notifications from Gmail.

Actually, if you want a free, lower-tech way to do this, install the Power Control widget on a home screen. The fourth widget - which looks like a white circle with two arrows pointing at each other within the circle - toggles data sync. You could turn it off at night and back on when you wake.

Note, I don't use the separate email app - I only use Gmail - and I don't think that the email app uses this setting to control updates. I know that Gmail does, however.

So the data sync is strictly for browser and email sync? It doesnt effect the network which controls incoming calls and texts?

It is also avaiable free in AutoSync OnOff from CurveFish as a stand-alone button. (You could get the suite of 12 stad-alone buttons fron CurveFsih instead.)

I have a toggle button for the sync, I just want to make sure by turning this off, I can still get texts and calls.

data and cell network are separate entities. Data is everything but calls and texts - unless you use an app for SMS that goes through the data channel (like Google Voice).

Handcent, Chomp, etc still use native SMS capabilities through cell network, not data, so you're safe.

Unless I'm completely missing something on my Bionic, I think you must have an added app to help you do this.

The only way I can do it is with accounts I have in K9, but in the built-in app, there's just one place to set the notification sound, and it sets it for all accounts that I have set up through that built-in e-mail app.

Am I missing some place to go into?

Thanks for helping.

If the accounts are all Gmail accounts, or Google apps domain accounts, you can use the Gmail app to fetch mail, and not only can each account have a different ringtone, you can set individual mail labels to have different ringtones as well.

Nah, I'm just talking about various accounts that I have set up in the default, built-in, non-gmail e-mail app on the bionic.

I have my work account (which is on an Exchange server, and I have it configured to sync via the default, built-in mechanism for this) and a couple personal ones (connected via IMAP with the built-in e-mail app).

As I said in the OP (which was easier to understand what this thread was about before they squished multiple threads with completely different questions together into this one thread.....something which I actually got slapped for when I did it), I tried this with K9, and with that third-party app, I was able to set up different notification sounds for each e-mail account (for the Exchange one as well as for the individual IMAP ones). Here, I'm trying to find out if this is possible with the default, built-in e-mail app.

I understand that. I do not use the email app, as it is rather crappy IMHO.

But you asked omahatian how you can manage having different notifications for different email accounts, and I was answering that question - you can do so in the Gmail app. You can't (that I know of - I did just add a couple of accounts to play around a bit) in the stock messaging app.

I'm sorry that this has gotten so confused by what others have done to my threads, but no, I was not asking if there is any way to set different sounds for notifications for separate e-mail accounts ont he Bionic.

Clearly, since I said that I have already done it successfully with K9, I know that it can be done.

However, the purpose of the thread which this question came from was originally to specifically ask whether or not it could be done with the built-in e-mail app.

Thanks for your time.
I truly appreciate your help in coming to this conclusion.....it can't be done.
