didn't seem to find the answer I was looking for when I searched for it so I'm hoping you guys and gals might be able to help. I want to change my text tone for when I'm receiving a text message and I can't figure out how to do it? I found out how to do it when I download a soundboard from the market but I found a sound from the website phonezoo and I can download it to the phone but can't add it as a text tone? Hopefully I'm making at least a little bit of sense here. Thanks in advance

Jeremy

Are you using the standard SMS app on the phone? If so, that is very easy. Simply go into settings and then click on sounds. Change the notification ringtone there. If you are using another SMS/text message app, go into the settings of that app and you'll find where to change your notification sounds.

Now, as far as adding a custom sound you found online or from another app, you can add it to the following directory if you are rooted so that it will display in the standard ringtone change menu when you go change it.

/system/media/audio/ringtones

ok now my next question...what is "rooted"? Also, I've been able to add a custom ringtone as my ringer but I can't seem to find out how to add a custom text tone?

I don't think you need to be rooted to accomplish this. You can create a media/audio/notifications folder on your external sd card. Maybe even on the internal one instead of planting it in system. Media player will scan and find it the next time you restart your phone. You can also create Alarms and Ringtone folders in the same audio folder.
