Spam calls and Google FI

When I got my pixel2 on FI , i was amazed how proactive the spam calls were blocked before even it rings.
I don't know what happened that the good spam blocking app was messed up. Now, every morning a spam call with area code of 817 wakes me up. it's not even that, it goes to voice mail and I have to manually delete it.
The only thing you can do now is to manually add the spam number to black list, it says block and report the number, but i'm not sure if it helps at all.
I hope getting the pixel4 and moving to VZ will solve the problem, do you guys on VZ have better luck?
Is there any option to block calls with a certain area code?

Install Youmail from the play store. Will block all of those nasty callers

i'm moved to verizon and i use youmail. best app on the market. every now and then one will slip past

I have used nomorobo in past, it worked, kind of, but I canceled the $2 subscription as I saw increase in spam calls. I just decided to give it another try.
Is youmail free?

I agree with Dannydet and karte's replies above. Youmail, Nomorobo, and any other similar apps might help you a lot. I use some of them too. I sometimes also look up some of those numbers just to know if those numbers have been reported by people as spammers. I usually find some useful reports and warnings filed at some complaint boards like https://www.whycall.me. People should read these kind of info often.
