Spam? Virus? Overreaction?

I'm very, very new to Android and smartphones in general. Therefore, I apologize if my question seems basic or panicky...

I received a direct message through my Twitter account yesterday on my LG Ally. Before I even thought about it, I clicked the link. It immediately opened a browser page that redirected itself through 4-5 websites. It eventually landed on a pornography site. It never asked me to download or execute anything. And I never clicked on anything within the page. I immediately cleared my cache, history, and cookies.

I then downloaded and ran Lookout which told me there was no Malware or Spyware present.

In addition, I don't see any new downloads or apps on my phone. The phone runs no differently than it did before. Just very concerned for my personal information.

Should I be concerned at all? Or am I completely overreacting to a simply spam attempt?

Any and all comments would be GREATLY appreciated so that I can sleep again.

Hi there, welcome to the forums.

I think you should be fine. I'm not aware of any spyware/virus being installed on Android via that method and if lookout says you're ok, you should be fine.

Nah, I think you'll be alright.

Most malware makes it's way onto Android handsets via infected apps from the market and google normally remove the apps as soon as they hear about them, both from the market and the handsets.

If there were viruses/spyware/malware embedded in those pages, it would've most likely been designed to execute itself via a Windows PC, not an Android (linux) handset.

Weird text messages, numbers you've not dialled appearing on your bill?

I'll be honest and say I'm not entirely sure as malware/spyware isn't really a massive issue on Android handsets so I don't know what to look out for.

As I said, Google are pretty good at remotely removing stuff that is confirmed as naughty.

We would rather you ask and get it figured out than to have it turn into a big problem :) Main thing is just to be careful with what you download and install on your phone. The thread below would be a good thread for you to read, as it will give you a good idea on how to protect yourself.
