Spanner Icon Disappeared?

I've had my Ray for five months now and have always used the swipe texting... until now. It has just gone, and has taken the spanner icon with it, apparently. When I go into text settings, it seems to be saying that I'm on a Chinese keyboard all of a sudden???
I'm embarrassed to say, I haven't got the vaguest notion of what's going on here, right out of the blue.
Does anyone have anything useful to offer in the way of assistance, please?

Paul,

I have no idea, but I want to welcome you here. If the other staff can't answer your question, how about you pose the same question here: Android Lounge - Android Forums

There are more techie types in there who may understand what your needs are. Welcome. :)

Hi Paul Rogers!

Welcome to the forums! I'm not sure if it'll work but you can try it.

Under your general settings, under Language and input (keyboard) is Swype still available as an option? If so, see if you can set is as default and check your texting app again.

I hope all goes well. Have a good one. :)

What you have alluded to goes right to the essence of the thing... any semblance of a Swype option has altogether evaporated from the set-up. Is Swype provided with the handset on licence for a limited amount of time only, perhaps...? But surely not - I've never heard any anecdotal suggestion like that before. Bizarre!

My bad! Your Xperia Ray doesn't have Swype but Sony's version of swype. I did a bit of snooping through google and found that the Gesture input does not work with any other languages so if a different language is enabled somewhere then the gesture input will not be available.

Now the question would be, how and why your language changed. I think that's best to ask your fellow Xperia Ray owners.

You can start a thread there or search for your answer there. Sorry about that.
