Help Speaker suddenly not working

Yesterday, all of a sudden, the external speaker on my handset stopped working - I can still hear everything if I plug in earphones, and I can hear callers - as long as I don't put them on speakerphone.

Basically ringtone, notifications, alarms, media, all are silent. I assumed this was a hardware fault, so I've arranged for a new handset to be sent out by vodafone tomorrow.

HOWEVER, I've read today that other people seem to be having the same issue! The only thing I did yesterday that was unusual was connecting my handset to my PC to sync some music and calendar, using the just-updated updated HTC Sync application on my PC. Normally, if I connect to the PC it's just to charge.

Anyone any ideas? I've tried restarting and clearing my cache, connecting it back to my PC and so on. I'm about to try removing the battery, and I'll be doing a factory reset tonight prior to handing over the handset.

And, it's working again.

For the record: I'd arranged to do a handset exchange with vodafone, so I did a factory reset on the handset, turned it off and removed the battery, sd card and sim card.

Spent the day waiting for the courier to turn up, and when that didn't happen and it was time to go home I put everything back, turned it on, and as my messages started to flood in I realised they were making notification sounds.

So basically, factory reset, take everything out, leave it for a while (in my case it was approx. 3 hours), put everything back and et voila......

@pep - nope, I hadn't installed anything new prior to the problem
