Help Specific notification settings for specific apps - Galaxy S6

Hey all,

Recently switched over to a Galaxy S6 from iPhone, and completely loving it so far.

One feature I can't seem to track down is how to specify notification settings per app.

Examples:

-Gmail app- I want to add a badge notification when I get an email, but don't want a lock screen notification. (Which by the way badges seem to weirdly appear or not at random... ex, I'll get badge notifications on the Facebook app, and sometimes not, and I've never seen a badge icon appear on any other app besides FB, and have found no option to turn on or off badge notifications).

-Playstation app- I want notifications on the lock screen, but don't want it to play a sound or vibrate

-Messages- I want all notification options on; vibrate, sound, badge, and notification on lock screen

All I can seem to find is the 'App notifications' under 'Sounds and notifications' in Settings... but this only allows you to either turn notifications on/off (they call it 'Block notifications'), which will completely turn off notifications.

I'd be surprised if there was no way to affect certain aspects of a notification per app... this is a basic feature on iOS. I also realize you can go into say the Gmail app for instance for more notification settings... but again you're only given the option to turn them on or off. And Gmail is one of the only apps that even allows you to do this.

TL;DR Am I missing how to customize notifications for specific apps? I'd assume there is a way to change the way notifications appear per app (ie, sound, vibrate, badge, lock screen) more than just turning them completely on or off.

Thanks a million for your help!

I'm not sure how it works with sending stuff to your lock screen, you may need a 3rd Party lock screen app for that, but take a look at lite flow: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite

It sounds like it could do most of what you're after. :)

Thank you so much! This definitely looks like the some of the functionality I'm looking for. Too bad you need a 3rd party app just to customize notifications... and it looks like from the reviews that this app is broken now with the current OS unfortunately. In any case, thanks for the tip!

Works perfectly on my LG G4 on 5.1.1, I think most of the comments relate to the 6.0 update.

The dev is pretty responsive, the paid version of the app was last updated on the 21st October so if there are any issues with Marshmallow, it will probably get updated to work with them.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Settings.

  3. Scroll to and touch Sounds and notifications.

  4. Touch App notifications.
You should be able to turn off notifications for specific apps from there, are you not seeing App Notifications under Sounds and Notifications?

I think you missed the bulk of my question here... I indicated that I know how to turn notifications on and off... the question is how do you customize or adjust those notifications (ie, sound, vibration, badge, lock screen). So maybe I'd want an app notification to appear on the lock screen but not vibrate or play a sound, or maybe play a sound but not vibrate, etc. The question is related to customizing notifications rather than just completely turning them on or off.

If you have any suggestions, please share!

Nice, good to hear. Thanks for the heads up!

So I went ahead and tried out Light Flow Lite, and the functionality is pretty good... the ability to adjust sound and vibrate for specific apps is nice. And yeah, looks like you're right, no lock screen setting. I think the biggest bummer is there is a very limited number of apps that this can actually affect, like it seems mostly just default apps, so things like the Playstation App are not available. Maybe there's a similar app that just does more?

The paid version does a lot more, here's a more comprehensive list: http://www.reactle.com/p/features.html

No Playstation app though :/ Although in the FAQ, the dev does mention if an app sends a notification, liteflow can configure it. Up to you if you want to spend the money on the paid version though. If you do install, there's a 2 hour refund window if it doesn't work.

Alternatively, you might want to have a look at slidelock: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slidelock&hl=en_GB

It's been a while since I had it but I seem to remember you could configure individual notifications and what appears on the lock screen.

I did, which is why I editted it to a dot heh. Sorry about that, I'm working right now as well. No worries.
