Specs outdated?

I was debating getting this phone, but it seems like it's hardware is going to be outdated by years end. I mean with the HTC droid dna and the note 2 both coming our with better screens, cameras, software, and processors, what is a good reason to get this over those other two? Besides battery life. Thanks!

Its kind of hard to compare vs two phones that are not even released yet but based on the tmobile version of the note2 and previous Samsung and HTC phones I can make some assumptions:

The Verizon Note2 will be cheaply built with a beautiful screen and ok reception. It will be smoother than the HDs but will still stutter/lag at times. There will never be any good docks no matter how many millions of phones are sold. It will be too big (for me at least) and have a stupid, ugly, Verizon-branded home button that is a ripoff of the iPhone.

The DNA will have a better screen than the note2 and much better than the HDs. The giant high def screen will cancel out any savings the quad core gives and battery life will continue to suck. The new sense will be improved but will still bog down the phone and cause lag. It will have a much better build than the cheap note2 but still not as good as the HDs.

The HDs are obviously lacking on the spec sheet but I like them because they are extremely solid and reliable phones with nice screens and excellent battery life. I'd love to find a better phone but so far there isn't one for me and I don't expect the DNA to change that. I know the note2 won't change that.

I think ALurker pretty much nailed it.

I'm not a fan of Samsung's build quality and HTC's Sense bullshit will definitely keep me away from their phones. Especially considering their latest abandonment announcement.

If you want to go by pure specs, you're definitely looking at a "last generation" phone here, but it's the cream of the crop IMO, and I can see it lasting a long time.

Another thing to remember, no matter what you buy, in about 6 months it's outdated. I LOVE the battery life on the HD MAXX. I can probably get through 2+ days with normal usage on one charge. Until there is a "better" phone with that much battery life, I don't see myself changing. It's a smooth phone with a great display. I like it enough I paid full price for it.

It's the battery, stupid. (I'm not calling the OP stupid, just quoting my own thread in this subforum!) There's always a new phone coming out with better specs. Six months from now when those phones come out there will be new phones with better screens, blah, blah, blah, six months after that. If you apply that logic then you will never have a new phone.

It's the battery. And the build quality. And the battery. And the look and feel. And did I mention the battery?

I think the term "outdated" isn't quite true. Just because something with a little more processing power or more RAM is out there doesn't make something "Outdated" After all the the Maxx HD is dual core and as of today there are very few apps optimized for dual core. Yes, quad core products are being sold but I would guess it'll be 2014 or later before we see a significant number of apps that actually require quad core processing power.

Before I got my Maxx HD about 3 weeks ago, I had an "X" (single core) for almost 2-1/2 years prior and there wasn't anything I asked of my phone that it couldn't do. I wouldn't call my "X" outdated. Not the "latest and greatest" by any means, but "outdated"..... nah.

As of now I'm just patiently waiting for the release of my next phone, sometime in the Summer of 2014.
