Spectrum V8 update coming (and found)

Wife got the update at work, she said it applied, but when I checked it says "Failed" in the Status query, everything shows the correct numbers, but she still has all the bloatware. I did a restart, no joy, battery pull -- restart, no joy, factory data reset I guess is the next logical step.
Any ideas anyone?

I know, I know, CM 10.1, got to test on mine first.

Yeah I had to V8 cab it.. Sad my spectrum can't have root or it'll go crazy. I'm on V8 right now I cabbed it, cab is pretty big, close to the V7, didn't have to wipe data either. Although on first boot it did go into safe mode, just reboot and update should go smoothly :)

Quick question, would it be ok for me to upload the V8 cab? I have it on my laptop and I'd be more then happy to share it with everyone :)

Cab Name: VS920ZV8_10.S8_10.P58017.R5
Cab Size: 585,757KB

Let me know if y'all need anything else :) also the battery is a lil better I'm at 17H 11m on battery and at 17%. Also it seems a little smoother.

I updated the links for the cab restore process a few days ago to include the v8 link. If possible, I could use a rip of the v8 /system and boot image. This would save me the aggravation of having to cab back to stock just to get them.

Alright, I can't root though.. If I do my phone will have problems booting up.

I'll re-cab my phone later today and grab these for you.

Just to make sure I dd the right partitions, which partitions are they?

If you're rooted, it would be this
adb pull /system
adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/bootv8.img"
adb pull /sdcard/bootv8.img

Even without root, you should be able to pull /system with ADB and those are the files I'm most interested in.

Sounds good, I'l pm you a dropbox link for the boot image, and system zip in probably about an hour.

Hopefully you don't mind me doing it from CWM once i'm rooted. Tried unrooted during boot and got quite a few "Skipping special file: xxxxx" lines. Don't really want to send you a partial pull.

Well, the system files. Boot obviously needs to be done before unlocking >.<

Files Uploaded and PM sent.

I explained a few issues I had in the PM. Lemme know if there's any issues.

Man forgot to grab update file off mine, was late and was tired.
If I can talk her into letting me Cab hers I will, right now she wants to get another phone though, she was having some strange problems before the V8 update might be a good idea, it is a Referb anyways, her first Spec crapped out on her couple months after she got it.

Anyone have a clean stock feel of V8 nandroid backup?

Or just a system.IMG for that matter?

I've got a zip of the system and an image of the boot that I sent to neph81.

I'll pm you a link off my dropbox. Don't want it public because a lot of people will download just because there's a link... and being a personal dropbox... that would lock my account.

Yeah I'm thinking cab I did it to mine and as long as you don't root or unlock boot loader it should be okay. I didn't wipe data coming from v7 to v8 with cab but in her case it is suggested. I'd just cab it play with it for a while if it acts dumb then wipe it :-)

How to flash this .bin file? Sorry for this noob question, because I already downloaded LGNPST, but it only can read .cab file.

I do not recommend using LGNPST to flash anything unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing. A bad flash will wipe your IMEI. Also, there are safer methods to flash .cab files then LGNPST. As for this file, it's an update package, much like update.zip . This was posted here just for the devs to see it. The official update was pushed out days later.

IC...I've downloaded the .bin file from link above, because mine can't update OTA maybe because I'm not in US. So my option is to manually flash this .bin file...what should I do or what application should I use to flash this update?

Any other suggestion how to flash? From what I read the easiest way is to use LGNPST. Mine already rooted...

If Neph's saying to do it the way he linked... Your best bet will be to do it that way.

*edit*

You should probably have mentioned that you're doing some swapping with things as well though.

Swapping your SIM/RUIM may have some effect on the method Neph's telling you to use. He'd know better than I would about that though.

This afernoon I tried to program my phone with DFS...as I remember I change the NAM entry in RUIM Card to NAM 1, and after that restart the phone. Now my phone stuck in boot loop right after 4G logo, I tried to hard reset its not working, I tried to flash it to V8 using Neph's method mention above still not working either, after restart the phone still in factory reset mode.

I'm not using CWM, should I flash it to V3 first? Because I see that V3 firmware has bigger size than V8 is that means it has firmware for the phone not just the OS. Or is there any other method to unbrick the phone?

Need help here...

Already tried flashing the V3 but no luck, I still have bootloop...is there by chance when in charge mode or download mode or any other mode other than normally on, I can get into phone setting (in DFS or LGNPST) and can make everything set back to where it was? I remember only change the NAM from 0 or nothing to 1, after that I click reset and the phone reboot then it start doing bootloop when it gets to 4G logo.

Unless you made a backup of your NV settings, your probably not going to fix this yourself. When in download mode, LGNPST will see the phone, but I do not remember if it allowed NV editing from there. It is probably your only hope at this point, short of taking it to VZW and seeing if they can fix it.

Okey thanks will try it later...I can't take it to VZW because I'm in Indonesia, I guess this will be my last hope...

I did it!!! I did bring my Spectrum back to life hehehehe...

After I tried to connect to NV Settings and did not work, then I flashed it using LGNPST with V4 firmware, and the phone can boot into the system...hahaha what a relief.

I guest if you messed up with the phone setting you can always fix it using LGNPST but as always...you will get zeroed out MEID...

btw just realize that *#*#4636#*#* is not working in V8...does anyone know how to get to service menu?

try downloading pimp my rom; it has an option in it to show the hidden menu

Okey thanks...downloading it right now...

It replied error "The application does not work on this device"...has anyone with V8 can get through the hidden menu? need to change the preferred system to cdma auto prl because the signal is not stable.

They most likely patched this the same that they did with the Lucid. The only way you are going to get back into that menu is flashing a V7 based from.
