Speech to text

Maybe its been asked, but im posting from my phone and im not really in a good position to search. Im trying to get speech to text to work for sms, but when I try it out it just opens my spoken text in the browser and does a search. What am I missing?

I don't know what you have to do to make it work with the stock app. I use handcent, and it has a speech to text option.
