Spellchecker app?

My girlfriend recently bought a sidekick 4G, and her major pet peeve about the phone, is the lack of spell checker when she uses the hardware keyboard. Is there any app that would do the spell check while she uses the hardware keyboard (english). Or is there any way on the phone to spell check. There is an option to do it on the phone, but it does nothing.

did you ever solve this?

i'm on a nexus one. the last software update screwed up the native spellchecker for sms/email.

I installed on her phone (and mine), Handcent SMS. It has a spellcheck option, which was as close as we can get. Regrettably, for the sake of this post, I broke up with her, so I don't know if she was 100% happy with the spellcheck portion of Handcent...I use Handcent purely for the customization part...
