Help SPen stopped working

A few days ago the SPen stopped working and when I remove it from the holder the touch screen stops working as well. The shortcut menu still opens up on the right side so I know it recognizes the SPen but I can't actually do anything with it out even the touch stops. I have to reboot the device for touch to start working again. Although once I pull the SPen the out it becomes inoperable.
I noticed this after the OTA update but can't be sure if that is the exact time or not.
I've done a factory reset and still the issue happens.
any ideas?

This just started happening to my wife's Galaxy Note 10.1. We each got one and I've had no issue yet but she's seeing these exact symptoms post OTA update.

I'm going to see if I can get more info using adb when she gets home. Will report here if I do.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We recommend you connect the tablet to your computer, launch Kies and without removing the S Pen, select Tools > Emergency firmware recovery. This will perform a full restore and restore the tablet to working order. If the issue persists, we recommend you file a service request.

Will try this with my wife's tablet and report back.

No dice.. the Emergency Firmware Recovery tool doesn't show the device. Been on the phone with Samsung support (which sucks btw, reboot, do a factory reset, try again, did you reboot? transferred to someone else.. rinse repeat).

Registered a user to try and post a "Me too" to the Community Q&A on the Samsung Support page, but every time I try it just takes me back to my Account settings.. So their support site seems to work as well as the tablet..

We'll probably just return it and get something else.

GG Samsung.

To fix the Spen issue on the Galaxy note 10.1 n8000 8013 you need to set the OS back to 4.0.4 and let it update normally to 4.1.2. This requires rooting but it works. I tried Kies, recovery and just over laying the original OS and it doesn't work. I had to download and install 4.0.4 and allow it to naturally update and it works perfectly. Samung can't even help you with this, i tried.

Hi, I have the same.problem. One moment my spen was working and a few hours later it was not. I was drawing and let my gnote on my desk and the spen out, went to eat something, came back 2 hours later and my tablet was turned off because the battery ran out of power. So I plugged it and turned it on, grabbed the spen to keep drawing and it didnt work. Not even the button. The detection swnsor is working. Buy I ran the *#0*# test and the wacom and hoover test failed. I have the sm-p601 with firmware 4.42. I dont know if it was an update or what. I live alone so i am sure no one touched it or something loke that. It just stopped working. Pleaae help!
