Spider season

Around this time of year we see a few more spiders around the house. Here's one rather big specimen we woke up to this morning in the hall. I know this is nothing compared to @Phases' little pets.

I'm mostly OK with spiders coming in, but they have to follow the rules. Stay up towards the ceiling or on the walls and you're fine. Get in my face and suddenly you're not fine. The only ones I kill on purpose are wolf spiders, they have long enough fangs so can actually break skin, one got Tickle in the face once. They must die, and die they do.

I'm not really scared of spiders, just most everyone I know is. I love to make the "burn the house down" joke about them. I do so whenever opportunity knocks.

In general, I like spiders cause they kills flies and gnats and mosquitoes.

Haha! Love the picture. I think my Mrs' preferred spider killing weapon would be a flame thrower.
My attitude is just to leave them, as I agree they do no harm, and eat the flies and other insect pests. However once the Mrs spots them, they're dead.

No, they aren't really big, just run of the mill small-ish spiders. The wolf spiders that get in are on the tiny size too, but I hate them! There's a teeny-tiny gap in my front door, I know that's there where they get in but I've not been able to totally patch it.

I don't hate spiders ... that much.

My first car accident was because of a spider (okay, it was driver distraction, but I was distracted by a spider.) I was 16, just got my license two months earlier and while visiting a buddy, I parked under a tree and left the windows open. On the way home a spider crawled across my windshield and as i reached to squish it, i took my eyes off the road and drifted into the other lane. I sideswiped an oncoming car. No injuries, but my insurance rates were more like a mortgage after that.

I am allergic to spiders bites. And, as everyone knows, spiders crawl on you while you sleep. Sometimes they tickle and if you flinch they bite you. One bit me when I was in college right around the eye and it puffed up like I had taken a right cross from Dwayne Johnson. When I went to the school infirmary, the first thing the nurse asked was "who hit you?".

Add to that where I walk my dogs every morning the spiders work all night building webs between the trees and the lampposts. While I dodge most of them, I get a web in the face almost on a daily basis.

Of course they can be amusing, too.

I don't want to disturb you, but urban myth would tell us that we swallow 8 spiders a year in our sleep.
Fortunately the little blighters wouldn't come anywhere near me because I tend to snore.

Yeah probably. But we'll all be eating insects before long, it's the most sustainable form of protein on the planet.

We had 1 of these groovy guys in the house once upon upon time!

We also had one of the world's most deadliest snakes on the globe - the dreaded black mamba!

That was back in Durban - I freaked when I saw it luckily though the garden boy got it lol I was too scared to move at one point like a coward

But I think I most problematic spider is the black widow.

I have never actually seen one though only heard about them.

I see a lot of button spiders those are horrible especially in winter as they start to come into the house (for warmth) and are everywhere :/

If you get bitten by one of those you can get very sick so be careful

I'm not necessarily afraid of spiders. They fascinate me in their own fashion. However, I'm the spider killing guy here at the Ob ranch. If my wife happens to spot one, it's my DUTY to see it's destroyed immediately. I have to offer up the squished remains for approval or at least proof of the killing.

Years ago I was bitten by a spider while sleeping. It bit me in the middle of my back. By the time I mashed him around to my view there wasn't much to determine the species. The spot where I was bitten first was sore and then the skin turned black and died. I went to the doctor and he immediately asked what type of spider bit me. Naturally I answered...
