Spint/T-Mobil merger

Sprint is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM so if Im a Sprint customer what type of phone should I buy? Lets say I went all out and bought a $1200 Note 10 with Sprint CDMA would it still be totally compatible with the new network 4g. After two or three years then what? Any advice would be appreciated, Thank you.

i think it is too early to tell how the merger will affect the two different technologies. but i think with cdma you still need a sim card so it should not affect phones too much.

There isn't much information on the web on specifics so I just thought Id ask. I still have three working n910p Note 4's. I can say there dated but not obsolete. The removable battery and expandable storage are a few thing I hate to give up. The main drawbacks are 32bit and 3gb rom (snapdragon). If you know yout way around XDA you can really busy the performance but of course within hardware limitations. Anyway, I would even consider a $1200 phone with a locked bootloader. I perfer the S6 edge plus 64gb but will purchase the Note 5 64g as it is easier to disassemble. Most likely the age of the Li-ion battery will need replacement. With the glass back it won't even last the week.

Any currently available phone on those networks should be no problem, as AFAIK they all have GSM, HSDPA, and LTE. No manufacturer makes CDMA only phones now.

CDMA's days are numbered anyway. Verizon is apparently turning their CDMA network off by 2021

I suspect Sprint has similar plans for their CDMA network. And Canadian carriers like Bell ceased CDMA a couple of years ago now.

Here in China we have China Telecom CDMA, but any phones that they supply are GSM, HSDPA and LTE capable, as well as CDMA.

FWIW I think the last time I read about CDMA only phones on AF was about 4-5 years ago, where somebody in the US had bought a second-hand China Telecom branded HTC on Ebay, that didn't take a SIM.
