Spotify: files "reconnect" or do they need to redownload

Can anyone offer some insight on this: I had Spotify premium up until last week or so, and a number of playlists were downloaded to my phone. My premium account lapsed, so I can't listen to those songs at the moment. However, if I restart my premium account, will the playlists become available again? According to Disk Usage, the files are still on the phone.

I vaguely recall last time this happened that the app was convinced it had to redownload everything. The problem is that I work offshore and I'm currently out of cell range and the internet connection on the ship is satellite and weak; it would take forever to go through all those files again. It wouldn't be worth it to spend the $10 right now if I can't use the files.

Has anyone restarted their Spotify account with the files still on the phone?

So, I restarted my Spotify premium account: why are all the files still on my internal storage (according to disk usage), but the app is slowly trying to re-download them?
