So, apparently there's been some sort of change to Spotify today.

Is it now possible to play music stored on my computer through Spotify on my desire without getting a premium account?
 
Most changes on spotify allow you to do less than you could before. I would be interested to know if this trend has changed also, but I doubt it.

Not entirely. From what I understand of today's update, any users (including free ones) can now sync their own mp3 files in a spotify playlist to their smartphone using the spotify mobile app. So in other words, you can download an mp3 from say amazon, import it into spotify and it will sync with your phone.

So now, we can use spotify to organise our own music and sync this with our phones for free. But you cannot stream their content that you do not own without a premium account. That remains.

None the less, I'm looking into this new feature. Seems interesting, as I've been looking for program to organise and sync my music to my phone.
 
It's a bit like itunes sync. It'll transfer local files only (so if you've downloaded a song or ripped it from a cd).
