Root [Sprint/Cricket] need help w/flashed phone w/clean ESN

I'm trying to get sprint to either give me another phone or refund my money (combination of their rebuy program plus the difference to what I paid for the phone) b/c it's their fault they said the phone was fine, so I don't want to root or flash and screw something up. So I'm going wait to see what they come back with first.

No, I did not mentioned that it still shows the previous owners phone #, but I found it odd. I don't know if that's normal for sprint android phones, I've been with sprint only around 5 months and had been using iPhones. I'm going to bring that up when I talk to them again next week.

Sorry to revive this old thread but having kind of the same problem. I'm trying to activate an S3 on Ting and was told that the ESN is good by Sprint but I can not get an MSL and Ting said they just can't activate it even though the ESN is good. My PL Version is the same as the OP other stats are:

I purchased the phone from a reputable seller via eBay. Phone was new (open box). Any help would be greatly appreciated; I'm totally frustrated and need to get this working asap.

Connect the phone to Wi-Fi. Download Terminal Emulator from the market. Run the command
getprop ril.MSL
Should spit out the code you need.

That doesn't work on MB1. You need to call sprint and get it or downgrade to LJ7 and then use terminal emulator. I just tried all day yesterday then I called sprint and told them I was in a sprint store and they did a factory reset, the technician told me to keep my MSL handy and to call and get it.
