As usual, my timing is impeccable. I updated my SGS3 with a "system update" and then tried to root today to no success.

I'm stuck at the step where it says to boot into the bootloader and I should see clockworkmod bootloader but nope, it just has android regular bootloader...?
I've done the odin step twice and it went green...

Does anyone know why I may not be able to root? Is it my android version?

Model: SPH-L710
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: L710VPLG8
Kernel version:
3.0.8-906128-user
...

Well, I just read that I should be using the cord that the S3 came with??
I'll keep everyone posted

I was stuck in the EXACT same place as you until the friendly helpful forumites in here helped a brotha like me out, so heres passing on the love. Check out this video, and follow the steps EXACTLY as qbking77 instructs, and you will then have ROOT!!!!

Yep....the first time I tried it I was using the cable from the OG EVO and I couldn't even get the pc to recognize the phone. I switched out to the Samsung cable and had it rooted in 10 minutes.:D

I quoted this post to stress the link, but I'm replying to the OP.

More or less what it's going to say is that Android automatically reflashes the stock Android recovery, if that feature isn't disabled. You have to disable that after you flash CWM in Odin, but before you reboot the phone into Android.

And CWM is a recovery, not a bootloader. It's a distinction that will save you headaches later to learn now :)

Really? I actually rooted my S3 with my OG Evo cable. I didn't even take out my official Samsung USB until a few days after using the phone. I wonder why it's not working for you guys.

I'm fully rooted now and have been for a few days now. The video in the link I posted was the key. Qbking77 knows his schtuff
