Root [Sprint/Cricket] Searching For Network - Help

eplanajr

Lurker
So I bought a phone today, the guy gave me the ESN, I ran it. Came up clean. I didn't check to see if there was an ESN sticker, when I popped the battery tray open, no sticker.

Guy doesn't answer his phone (of course).

Stock ROM, no network connectivity (does connect to wifi)
Stock rooted rock, no network connectivity (does connect to wifi)
Installed cyanogen, no network connectivity (does connect to wifi)

The status screen under the setting menu reads as follows:

Network: Searching for Service
Signal strength: -120dBm 99asu
Mobile network type: Unknown
Service State: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
My phone number: 000-000-3672
MIN: 0000003762
PRL: 25016
MEID: xxxxxxxxxxxx9328 (There is a 14 digit number there, i just put x's for this post)
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx3281 (There is a 15 digit number there, x's for this post)
ICCID: 890112000001843281

Not a dumb question.

I have not yet. I thought it would see the network regardless of whether the phone is activated or not? Am I just plain wrong and need to have it activated in order for the phone to see the network? (Sprint in my case)

Yes. Case in point, my deactivated Evo can connect to wifi, but is not connected to the network and it says the same thing as you posted in your op ;)
Mobile network type: Unknown
Service State: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected

Edit: although I'm a little concerned that there is no sticker under the battery :hmmmm:

Yes we have a built in internal SIM card. Try ruim / nv or something like that.. it's completely stopped my network and even after a clean flash.. I guess this gets backed up and the option sticks after rerom. Try this and Ummm... Lol I'll have to get back to ya.. at work and can't Google as good. :P

Phone is now activated, no luck with mobile networks.

WiFi is fine.
No calls or data.

You may need to re-provision the phone. Since you bought the phone from someone it has the old configuration settings though Sprint's CDMA network. You will have to call Sprint and have a CSR step you through re-programming the phone.

Also you will need to do PRL/Data Profile update, you can try that first and see if that corrects the issue.
