Root [Sprint/Cricket] Tried to root, now have a dead android picture (not brick)

I rooted my HTC Evo 4g LTE and went through a bunch of roms on that so I have an idea of how this works.

I followed qbking77's walk through video, got the phone into download mode and got the .tar file on, pulled the battery, booted into recovery mode. Tried to unzip the team epic file but I kept getting an error message that it couldn't mount data or cache or sd_card no matter what I tried. Puzzled I just rebooted the phone, everything works fine so I tried the process again. Now when I boot to recovery it does not go into clockwork, it reads:

Android system recovery <3e>
KOT49H.L710VPUDND8

and at the bottom of the screen

# Manual Mode #
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code : SPR
Successfully applied multi-CSC

There's a dead android in the backround with a red triangle exclamation point.

I try applying an update from external storage and unzip CWM_Superuser_v3.0.7, it will go through the unzipping process and reboot but no super user.

What do I need to do? I had files from my HTC on the sd card still, that shouldn't affect anything should it? Do I need to erase anything from the phone and/or sd card? Thanks for any help.

This being the Samsung S3 forum you may get a better response in the HTC forum. The root process is similar but different.

Based on this:

emphasis mine
I would surmise he is talking about his Sprint S3? ;)

I see he's on ND8 KitKat
Search for rooting the ND8. All I did was Odin the recovery and flashed a ROM. It went verry well. I made sure I started with the KK One click first, just to let you know. That way I knew I was up to date and on the correct starting point.

I really tried to get through this yesterday but am just really confused. I'm trying to flash philz recovery that I read about in one of the threads and when I boot to recovery and try to install the zip it says: finding file
opening file
verifying file
Failed to verify while file signature
Then repeats the same thing and then reboots.

I read the threads that Mikestony linked and tried the stuff in this link:
http://androidforums.com/sprint-cri...51-rooting-samsung-galaxy-s3-please-help.html

I also downloaded ABD and ran that from my PC command prompt but a bunch of stuff just flashed really quick across the screen and then it closed.

I don't know what to do with ABD and I've tried flashing files in Odin, even tried sdk-tools (like I had to do with my HTC) but I just can't get this. Is there a step by step on how to use ABD somewhere? Or can someone spell this out for me without sending me to a bunch of different threads?

Thanks!!!

I'll try to see if I can figure out how I did it. I haven't been able to get in front of my personal computer as of late and thus haven't been able to do much on my own stuff.

If I remember I just Odin'ed the ND8 ROM on to my phone, made sure it worked, flashed the recovery and then booted straight to the recovery. From there I flashed the X-ROM I'm using and haven't looked back.

I would much appreciate it. I was hoping to use slim rom with philz recovery. I did not mess with any kernals when I was flashing my HTC, is it worth changing kernals with the S3?

I am not rooted yet and I do not have any recovery flashed yet either.

Thanks!

Yeah, with Samsungs it seems that everybody changes the kernel with the recovery. philz is very stable and is widely used. Just make sure whether or not the ROM you want uses AOSP or TouchWiz

Yes slim is aosp based. I'd highly suggest kt747 kernel. It's got aosp and touchwiz kernels.. overclocking and underclocking and some wikid features. ;)

Dsmryder - could you tell me how you flashed the recovery? That is the part I'm stuck on. I'll go through the threads listed above again and see if I can figure this out.

I have a galaxy s3 gt-i9305 its stuck in Odin mode I've tried rebooting it and restarting but then it freezes on the Samsung logo

Try a different USB port n also make sure you have the usb d2spr L710 drivers installed or at least the d2lte L710 in you computer. If in Odin u see the blue rectangle top left of the program. And down bottom left in the message box saying adb n convected then you should be good all should need is Phil's Ver of recovery tar file take check marks out of all the rest except the one for Phil's recovery.
Click start let it complete till you see a big green box above that blue rectangle. In the green will say you passed.
