Sprint kicks AT&T Butt

An Android user really has no reason to be on AT&T, in my opinion. The better phones are on other carriers (like Sprint)
 
I was with Sprint for 6 years - the last two years was I was a Blackberry user. Love the network - hated the Tour and was not pleased with the Bold. I went to AT&T for the Blackberry Torch 2 months ago. Loved the handset, hated the network and the speed. Two days ago I walked back into the Sprint store and picked up three EVO's (one for my wife, one for my son and one for me) and ported back into Sprint. I'm not ever looking back. 4G is here and live on the tower that is not much over 300 yards from our apartment.

So last night I was at a bar in Boston with my brother. A gentleman taps me on the shoulder and asks me if I can look up the train schedule on my phone. I say sure, and he points out his wife's iphone has been requesting the page for over 5 mins now. I pulled up the page in seconds (on 3g no less) and he thanked me.

I still don't understand why people use AT&T, over priced and crap service.

I ported over to Sprint from AT&T when the Palm Pre came out. Ditched the Pre, but kept Sprint. Naturally these things will vary depending on where you live, but here in the wilds of northern New Jersey, Sprint is superior to AT&T:

MUCH faster data speed. I had a BlackBerry on AT&T and was lucky if I got 3G speed. When I got a BlackBerry again after the "Great Palm Pre Experiment", this time on Sprint, I was amazed at the data speeds.

Almost half the price for slightly more services. My monthly bill, after Sprint discounts, was half of what AT&T was charging me for unlimited BlackBerry service. I got all the same stuff with Sprint, plus more monthly minutes. When free mobile to mobile came along it skewed the benefits to Sprint even more.

Customer service is an entirely subjective call. I find Sprint's CS to be better than AT&T, but I've read horror stories for every carrier out there. And honestly I never had an issue with AT&T. Likewise, I've never had an issue with dropped calls on either carrier. Call quality: no difference in networks. So if the two networks offer the same coverage in my area, but Sprint gives me faster data for less per month, that's a no-brainer. Go Sprint!

Coudn't agree more.

My CS experience has been ok, but at least Sprint has made attempts to resolve my situations. My Evo recently died with a broken USB port. Sprint replaced it with a new Evo right there at the store. They didn't have to, but they did. It was a judgment call that they got right in my favor. Never had anything other than "it's not our policy" quoted to me in my previous dealings with AT&T.

I have 4G at home and most places I travel here in the Philly-NJ-NYC corridor so Sprint is the speed king to me.

BTW, I have not dropped a single call since switching to Sprint in June. I dropped calls daily at AT&T. Nothing like knowing I'm not the one apologizing for the dropped calls any more.:D
 
I dont think one is better than the other and if it is its based on where you live. The 3g on my captivate kicks the ass of my sister inlaws Evo. In fact sprint is pretty widely unpopular in lower upstate NY and my sister inlaw said that sprint has tried screwing her a hundred times on everything from billing to contract resigning. On the other hand I think AT&T has been great in the respect of customer service, and let me resign my contract 9 months into an existing one just so I could get the captivate for $200. They are not the best but half the people I know that bad mouth them never even had them.

AT&T was always nice whenever I purchased a new phone or renewed a contract. They just weren't so friendly when I tried to resolve an issue or make note of coverage gaps. I drew the line when I visited a store earlier this year asking about anything they could do to match the value I'd get from Sprint. I would have respected them more if they just said no rather than saying Sprint didn't have coverage in my area. That was BS. Sprint has great coverage on both 3G and 4G.

You're right that different carriers seem to be better in certain areas. That said, it's ok for people to share them in forums and let the reader sort it out.

AT&T is spending more time disputing consumers and media test claims (Consumer Reports, CNet, etc) than other carriers for a reason.

if you read that consumer report I found it pretty funny how they do not make it well known that its based on 58,000 subscribers, what percentage of AT&T customers is that? Even funnier is this

It's just a sampling from subscribers.

VZW has never been a value wi I've never tried them.

No offense, but many of us look to carriers for a reliable network and little more. We dislike it when carriers add extra layers and apps to vanilla Android, and restrict us from functionality we know the phone is capable of because the carrier wants to sell the same service to us.

In particular, why on earth would Sprint disallow bluetooth connections from keyboards and mice when the other carriers offering the Galaxy Tab don't. Is there some service from Sprint that you *do* offer to give me this functionality?

Sorry to dump on you, but you threw it out there that you represented Sprint and I'm feeling more than a little buyer's remorse from picking the Sprint variation of a great device today.
 
I've had all 4 tier 1 carriers in the U.S., and Sprint is my favorite by far.

Verizon: Good network in NY/NJ, but the most expensive service and the WORST customer service. Dealing with them for a billing issue was what drove me to look at alternate providers. It's just not supposed to be that hard to get a straight answer and to resolve a problem they created themselves. The final straw was a blackout in NYC in 2000. My Verizon phone couldn't get a signal, but the guy standing right next to me was chatting away on his T-Mobile phone. Clearly just a quesion of tower location, but for me it was the motivation I needed. Off to T-Mobile, The Palm Treo, and later my first BlackBerry (7230).

T-Mobile: Great prices, and customer service is like the staff at Disney World in Orlando. Everyone is always so friendly and happy that after a while you get suspicious. Nobody is always THAT cheerful! I'm from New York, and when folks are that friendly it means they're planning something bad. The downside to TMO is the network. At the time I had T-Mobile the best you got for data was EDGE. And the network footprint was the poorest of them all. Additionally, at the time I was with them the selection of phones was at a multi-year low point. Not such a big deal since I was happy with my BlackBerry(s), but when I ventured out of NYC to places in northern NJ for things like Rugby tournaments, no signal.

AT&T: Decent service, but out in the wilds of northern NJ I still got no signal. Data services were dog-slow for me, to the point where 3G and EDGE were identical. I ported from T-Mobile to AT&T when the BlackBerry Bold 9000 came out, complete with 3G data speed. Loved the Bold, hated the myth of 3G speed. Thought about going back to T-Mobile, but AT&T had a great selection of phones and seemed to be getting all the new hotness that was coming out. So I stayed put.

Sprint: T-Mobile may have the best prices on standard plans, but when you add in the discounts and credits I get from Sprint I find I still save money with Sprint. What really got me to port from AT&T to "The Now Network", however, was the Palm Pre. Before discovering BlackBerrys I was a Treo user. The Treo with the original Palm OS (Garnett) became too unstable and unreliable, forcing me to look for an alternative I could rely on, which was BlackBerry. But I've always had a soft spot in my heart (and maybe my head!) for Palm, and I bought into the Palm Pre/WebOS hype all the way. Got Sprint service and the Pre on day 1 of availability. The Pre lasted just long enough for me to get my mail-in rebate, maybe a month, and then I was off to the Sprint store to score a new crackberry.

Palm Pre > BB 8330M > BB Tour > BB 9650 Bold > Samsung Epic 4G > back to BB 9650 > Evo 4G.

That's where I sit now, happy as a clam with Sprint and Android.
 
Rambo your experiences with the carriers are almost Identical for me.

I think the worst part for me was I have a corporate account so moving all the lines was always a headache..

But that could be word for word what I would type if someone asked me about my mobile experiences with the carriers..

I'll add when I got our first bill after Leaving Verizon for two months I thought it had to be a billing error in my favor and no way could the bill be so low..

Trenton, Burlington County, Rahway, Elizabeth, Newark, Jersey City, Cherry Hill, Hoboken, Ft Lee, Bayonne. I've used it in all these cities. Used it in Middle Village Queens today too. Was driving so I couldn't check State Island.
 
At&t just sucks, I left them and my iphone behind for sprint. Sprint has been the best service I have had. I have had Verizon in the past, they have great coverage but they can not get the billing right. My bill kept going over $100.00 every other month, when i had the $79.99 unlimited plan when they still had it. I also get 20% off my bill from work. Turns out they were charging me for the gps service even when in my plan it said the data and gps service were unlimited. With Sprint i still get my 20% off and my bill is the same price every month, and they are cheaper then the others even with the extra $10 for the Evo. I have never had T mobile so I can not give any feedback on them.
