[Sprint] ROMs Backups and Shorcuts / Pages Settings

CaRco

Lurker
Hi,

Sorry for the pretty common subject but could not find a conclusive answer to my questions on existing forum content....

After a ROM backup, and testing other ROMs, if I re-flash my original backed-up ROM, do I get to keep all shortcuts and folders / groups I created on my pages, in that original ROM?

I assume I get to keep everything as I am taking a snapshot of my system when backing up ROM...but I need more experienced advice.

Thanks in advanced for feedback.

Carco.

Yeah and backups are super fast on the gnex. Be sure to use twrp.

The file storage on the 4.2 roms are different than on the 4.1.2 roms because of the multiuser feature of 4.2. Supposedly there's a new TWRP can deal with the new file structure change but if you are on the older TWRP and you switch from 4.1.2 to 4.2 or back to 4.1.2 from 4.2, you won't be able to immediately see your old nandroids or data. It's there but it's not immediately obvious where. You can use root explorer or adb to move the files around but it's a bit awkward.
I don't have this file storage thing on 4.2 figured out yet but just saying to proceed with caution when flashing from a 4.1.2 to a 4.2 rom or vice versa.

It's a pain in the ass. Basically if you're on the new twrp an flash a 4.2 ROM then twrp will only look for SD files in the /sdcard/0 path. So if you revert to 4.1.2 it won't see anything that you have saved in /sdcard/downloads or wherever you save files. Its annoying. Thinking about reverting to an old version of twrp. I'll be honest, 4.2 kind of sucks. Hugely disappointing compared to 4.0 and 4.1.

Yup. Agreed the 4.2 memory stuff sucks. My son braved flashing a 4.2 ROM, and then went back to a 4.1.2 ROM. What a mess. He did revert back to twrp 2.2.0. He's my little guinea pig.
Lots of stress over on xda. They are working hard on this one.

Slyd and Mizzou, thanks for the heads up on this.

So if I use an older TWRP it will be easier than the newest version?

I'm still waiting to flash 4.2 so I hope this gets squared away.
