Sprint S4 to metro?

The account wasnt/isnt in your name sprint wont give you the unlock code for it even if she had it active that long. She will have to call. Also at least with the htc one with sprint its not just a matter of unlocking the sim card for it to work on u.s. gsm networks. The sprint htc one was a pain in the butt to unlock once they updated it. Now not sure about the s4 but sprint has a history of locking down the gsm radios in there devices not to be used on native gsm towers.

That isn't legal at least in Verizon's case
They aren't allowed to that anymore

Right now I can't do anything with it till she calls Sprint and disconnects it. 4g is still working so service is still active but I can't place calls or send SMS. That's just strange. Usually if calls and text won't work, 4g is normally not working too.

Sprint phones do that sometimes data will remain active for a bit after its been disconnected. If you try to make a call and they connect you to customer finance that means she owes a bill on it and they wont disconnect it with a billed owed.

Little update here... the lady who sold me the phone still owes on her bill and they won't unlock it for her.

I googled my 'mk4' firmware and there isn't a domestic unlock for it yet so I will probably sell it and get an unlocked phone. So now I have 2 questions.

Will I have a problem selling it since she didn't pay the bill and should I remove the sim?
And when buying an unlocked s4, is there a particular unlocked phone I should look for since I don't know if I will stay with metro or switch to straight talk?

If she doesn't end up paying the bill the IMEI or ESN will be blacklisted and those sell for lower prices. But when looking for a unlocked S4 the best one is Tmo's(M919) since it's the same as AT&T's model but with the extra HSPA band added.

Well I'm gonna be on top of her to pay it then! I think I may go ahead and sell it and get an m919 to take advantage of the extra band in that case. Useful info, thanks!

I have too agree with that get rid of it ASAP or test if it will work on t mobile

I have to stay on top of her, she offered my $50 back for it but I told her noooo. If I tell her they will blacklist it if she doesn't pay her bill, I'm hoping she will get a move on it. I'm still gonna sell it though.

definitely if he can make sure the ESN stays clean he could get at least $300 easily on eBay. Even if they blacklist it he might get 100-150 which would be double then what he paid for it. Why did she want it back anyway?

Yes I want to keep it clean so I can get the most for it. Edges are banged up and the glass is scratched (belonged to a kid) but it works perfect. I want to tryyyy to get $350 but that may be pushing it.

Odds are shes not gonna pay off a bill over a phone she let go for 50 bucks. Obviously not a top priority. So wouldnt count on that. If you can unlock it go for it. Not to sure if sprint or verizon even share there imei blacklists with att or tmobile yet. Last i heard they were gonna start but it was just gonna be lost/stolen devices. Unlock it and try. You only paid 50 bucks for it. Gotta take that into consideration to. A working s4 in any shape for 50 bucks is a steal. Bad esn or not.

Just last week I seen DNA go for near 200 with a bad ESN I don't think its pushing it

Might be worth maybe paying it yourself depending on what the bill is.

Itll be more than the phones worth. Sprint generally lets you get to 90 days past due before they shut you off for good. Now also they are still charging you for the service for the 90 days. Not to mention even after the bill is paid off they will just reinstate service on it seeing as it is still under contract. Even if she pays off the bill he cant sell it as a clean esn sprint phone. It will still be under contract and an activated line on sprint. The only way outta that is to pay off the bill then pay the etf. Or pay off the bill and once its reactivated swap it out to another sprint phone thus clearing the s4 off the line.

Checked the ESN, its clean but still active. Does this mean even if I unlock it I won't be able to pop another sim in there and use it with another provider?

Pop a sim in it if you have a LTE card from a metro phone put it in if it ask for a sim unlock code then you have an issue

until you unlock the device nothing will work on it. the esn is in use by sprint, the gsm part isnt sim unlocked so it wont work for you. once you sim unlock it and enable att/tmobile you can try putting a metropcs gsm sim card and see if it works.

If you unlock it it can be used on a gam carrier. Sprint doesnt use unlock codes though like traditional gsm carriers. They push an update to your phone that unlocks it for international use. Popping a gsm sim card in it now will do you no good it wont work. It needs to be fully unlocked. There should be a forum or a how to on xda for it. But with an active esn on sprint unless you pay the etf or you swap it out with another phone on that line you will never clear the esn to sell as a clean esn sprint phone. Another option is to find someone in your area who is familar with unlocking sprint phones and pay them to do it. Make aure they know its a sprint s4, they can be a pain to unlock.
