SPRINT Samsung Galaxt S4 firmware question

I'm a beginner so please help me understand.

I have a SPRINT Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T which has firmware OA3.
When I hookup my S4 to my PC using Kies 3.0 latest build it install firmware NK1 successfully.
Then I disconnect and check update in the S4 and check firmware updates and it download and install the OA3 back again.
Which is the proper way to know which is the proper firmware?
Should I always use Kies to install firmware?
Should I keep the NK1 firmware install or divert back to OA3?

There is some kind of disconnect with Sprint and their updates. OA3 is the latest firmware, just ignore Kies for now.

We are hoping to see an update in a few months (if we are lucky it will be Lollipop), and this problem will go away then.

At least I know I have the latest firmware and really looking forward to lollipop with all this hype.
It looks like SPRINT is taking its time before release and I like that.
