Can I turn off the wifi so it stays off all the time? Unless of course I manually turn it on....

It keeps turning itself on? Any suggestions please

Yes, you have to manually "forget network."

Wifi - select by tapping a connection - forget

Other than that it'll keep coming on.

Other than that, there *might* be an app that'll keep it disabled without having to forget your networks- but me personally, I don't know of any app. Someone else may chime in who knows more.

Sorry, ScandaLeX...gotta correct you on this one.

MENU>Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Connections Optimizer>Hit Back Button>Uncheck Box for Sprint Connections Optimizer.

That'll make sure that your wifi only comes on when you want it to. I can confirm that it works because mine never comes on, unless I toggle it myself.

This was all part of the Network Vision thing that one of the VP's was explaining how this would work and I kept wondering how this would be advantageous to users and whether or not that would really optimize battery vs. draining it...LOL...it was so weird to me, but ultimately I understand because they're trying to do that for the general consumers that don't really know how to use toggles...LOL.

<<~~~~~~~~~~~ Jaw Drop! I know that answer DrEx, I swear I do. :D

I've had Connections Optimizer checked from day one since I'm on wifi 95% of the time.

Lol...k. so funny though cuz I didn't realize what was automatically enabling my remembered wifi settings until I had a chance to set up my phone completely the weekend after I got my grey sprint note 2, which was weekend after Thanksgiving.

I think that option was configured in the set up (it was on by default). I turned it off from the get go. When I turn my wifi off, it's for a reason.

Have you looked to see if it re-checks itself? I un-check the box & later I'll see the wi-fi widget is on. When I look later, it has re-checked itself.

I think it automatically re-checks itself, when you go into the settings, but mine still functions as I needed (doesn't turn on wi-fi, unless I initiate).

A few questions..

Does it re-check itself when one takes out the battery or reboots?

Does it re-check itself if one just recharges without taking out the battery or reboot?

Now I remember this is what made me say delete remembered networks. I'd been doing a lot of reading in which was said wifi would keep enabling itself even with connection optimizer unchecked.

I can't confirm that since I keep wifi on 24/7 anyway.

question;

does having wifi enabled drain the battery any faster?

it seems that if this is the case, i can't tell.

If you have WiFi on and are connected to it it will drastically SAVE you battery.

If you have it on but aren't connected to anything, it can drain battery as it searches for a network to join. Its typically a pretty minimal drain though
