Root [Sprint] Touchscreen issue after custom rom

Going on 48 hours of trying to fix this, using a lot of google and random attempts.

Long story short, I wanted to root my new victory and put a custom rom on it. Followed rooting guides and that worked fine. Then I went to find a rom that would work and all I found was victorious, which I was so eager to try I didn't even think to read that part that said VM only. Got stuck in a boot loop. That's where I made the real mistake and decided to try a rom for another galaxy model, a custom s3 rom. Ever since that my touchscreen has been unresponsive, soft buttons and hard buttons work though. Using ODIN I've tried to restore to stock, I've used KIES to try to update, and everything has worked as far as I could want it to, but nothing restored touchscreen functionality.

If anyone can be of help, that would be great. I don't want to take it into a repair store or a sprint store and see what can be done to fix it if at all possible to do it myself.

Yup, that's how I've been using ODIN. Also able to go into recovery mode, but TWRP is useless due to touchscreen not working so I have stock recovery atm

Thank you for that, however I can't install CWM due to it not being supported by ODIN, and my attempt at ADB install ended sadly (didn't think it'd work, but worth a shot). Recovery mode says failed to validate. Not sure what I would do even if I got CWM working, the only thing I think it might be is kernel or driver, and though I have the kernel dl/d I haven't the faintest idea how to obtain the touchscreen drivers or what I would do if I did have them.

sorry bro I didn't realize that there wasn't a .tar for cwm. I think your problem is new so far as I know no one has tried flashing a s3 ROM. but hang in there we got some pros on the victory, I'm sure someone will be able to help

If you have stock Victory Recovery on your device, why not download the stock ICS at the bare minimum from here and flashing it via ODIN:

www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE (SPH-L300)/Stock ROMs/LH1/Original TAR

I had to do that when I rooted and customized my 4.1.1 ROM and therefore it wouldn't receive the 4.1.2 OTA.

Wiped, went back to 4.0.4 with that ZIP via ODIN (along with stock recovery), and then did the OTA again...

Tried, didn't work. That's what I meant when I said I tried to restore to stock, sorry for not clarifying. Also tried to go 4.0.4 and use KIES to do the update, hoping that would do it, to no avail.

Update: I've gone over the process again, using ODIN I reset to 4.0.4 and then booted up and updated using KIES, hoping by beating my head on the brick wall something would work again. No success. I downloaded the stock jellybean zip and put it on SD, tried to update via stock recovery but it said failure to validate that file as well. And for some reason the update via ADB option disappeared from the recovery menu, not sure why.

If anyone has another option, that would be great. Everything that I know of that would typically work is failing. If there was a way to reformat the entire phone and reinstall everything, I would be game to try it.

I also just tried getting the CWM .tar file, I found a few seperate ones, but they resulted in a black screen when it should be going into recovery. And the message I've been getting in stock recovery is signature verification failed, not failed to validate.

Just wanted to provide final update for any future issues if someone else runs into this. As it stands right now there is no known way to fix this. I even added TEP and went into a sprint store (rather pay $8 for the repair portion of TEP then the $50 deductible) to do an over the wire flash, hoping that would do it. Not even they could do it. Perhaps the software that they have at the warehouse to restore a phone could accomplish this, but not at a corporate store with OTW software. The only fix that I could think of is flash a stock kernel on there, but there's nothing in .tar format and the one boot.img that I found that someone converted did not work. So what ended up happening is the store offered advanced exchange, which I promptly agreed to as it replaces the phone based on inability to troubleshoot and fix successfully, and is reliant upon non-intentional damage/issues. So it all depends on how you describe the problem occurring :)

man i have this same issue. does any please have the kernal tar or cwm tar. i bought this phone used so i am screwed if all else fails. ive tried almost everything.

downloading it as we speak. hopefully it works. never had an issue that was this frustrating. i really think its a software issue since its never been dropped, doubt the digitizer just breaks like that.

oh also is your device the Sprint phone or the VM phone? just making sure... if its Sprint you're fine, if not you need the VM stock rom, I kinda forgot to mention that before.

Thanks for the info in this thread. I was a happy Victory user since late August (on FreedomPop) and successfully rooted and installed TWRP recovery on that unit; used it happily ever since, with many a TWRP restore of a close-to-new backup (curiously, the only successful TWRP save I've made to date!). Two days ago I got a 2nd Victory (for a friend). It is a ex-Sprint model bought off Ebay. It worked fine, well enough for me to activate on FreedomPop and then root (I used Kingo). Then the custom ROM...and the problems began! At first, flash attempts with Odin fail. I found out about Qualcomm secure boot and blamed it. I found an app called EZ unlock or something that may have bricked this Victory. Curiously, I have been able to restore via Odin either a custom ROM (not sure which, Victorious I think) or a "Stock" from the Rwilco site. However, in all these cases, I have totally lost the touchscreen as the above poster bemoans :( I've tried removing battery, wiping this and that, multiple restores, etc. And now have a $50 paperweight :) At least I have a good spare battery and a unit for spare parts. Unless someone has any new options, I am giving up on this unit. Why waste hours in hacking a problem when a $38 replacement can be had on Ebay? More is the pity since I'm out the activation fees and the like with FreedomPop. And today I was just looking and found out, to my surprise, that my original "no problems" Victory (a refurb from FreedomPlop) also has the evil Qualcomm Secure Boot! I guess first time was beginner's luck. If anyone would like my Victory Paper-weight it's yours (you pay postage!)

Hello,

Since 2 or 3 days ago, my Android started to act funny and weird, meaning that anytime the internet (WiFi or data) is turned off, the touchscreen - and the overall device - doesn't respond to my commands and only allows me to activate the internet connection. Once I do so, everything starts moving and acting as it should. I didn't tried to factory reset the device yet, as I want to use that measure as the final one. So, does anyone have some idea about the cause of this behavior and its possible solution?

Please help. Thank you!
