Sprint we need new phones ASAP!!

Verizon is getting rid of a bunch of things and charging more for other things. It is all carriers. They all do things like this that nobody really likes. If you switch because a carrier changes something smaller you don't like then you will always be switching.

Actually Verizon hasn't gotten anything other than the new every two which I completely dodge with a 1yr contract and unlimited LTE is staying at 29.99 for the foreseeable future. I see little to no reason to stay wth Sprint at this point. I'd be paying about 20 dollars more a month for a much better network and unlimited 4G LTE while still getting a full rebate on phones every year.

Unfortunately for you folks holding out until the 7th, the announcements are going to be Samsung-heavy. Still, there may be some non-Sammy phone announced.

The LG Optimus S is a decent phone. I'd get that before the Shift. I played with a Shift for about an hour. I was underwhelmed with the build quality and the keyboard. I should say that I'm a switcher - I go from the Evo to the BlackBerry Bold often. So finding a physical keypad that measures up to the BlackBerry is a tall order.

A lot of folks were peeved when Sprint announced bupkis at CES. Shouldn't have been a shock to anyone who follows Sprint as they usually announce new hardware during the summer. I agree that Sprint is in danger of falling off the pace by waiting until summer for new phones, but we should get *something* at MWC in Barcelona this month to hold us over. Sprint isn't in jeopardy right this second, but they don't have a lot of time until they lose any edge they had with the Evo and Epic.

The EVO release date was in June but the phone was advertised for months prior. I suspect we should hear something soon about any new hardware. I myself don't mind it being in the summer as Apple still uses a summertime release and this usually gives us the advantage with hardware over other carriers just months following their latest and greatest. Besides, my EVO stayed on top of the game for so long that I still feel I have a stong phone when compared to the latest releases of hardware. I don't need to upgrade but will gladly upgrade if the next hardware is of great appeal (and of course and HTC product) I won't purchase a Samsung until they figure this updating thing out a little better. (or if they produce an unlocked Sprint Phone)

Humm... didn't specify on that, if that's really the case then I don't even care if they get a great phone on the 7th, Verizon here I come, I'd gladly pay the 70 extra dollars and sign a 1yr contract.

All that really matter's is what your final cost ends up after two years of contract. Including phone cost, monthly subscription cost, and any other expenses due to hardware and carrier. I can bet that Sprint may be slightly cheaper but not make much difference when it's all said and done to some people. Take your pic and choose whatever brand carrier you would like. Just try and save your money as best as possible while keeping good hardware and phones.

They have changed their data plans twice in the last 6 months.....

But like I have ALWAYS said... Use what works best for YOU. If verizon works best for you then use verizon. If is is Sprint then use them. If it is ATT then use them. Or tmo then use them. That is the great thing about having choices.

Network development has to go hand and hand with hardware, if you focus on the network and neglect new phones you WILL lose customers, LOTS of them. We're living in the evolutionary era of the so called "smartphone" users are looking for the cool new features and if Sprint doesn't keep up on the hardware and can't compete they lose customers and the network budget goes down the tube.


Right, I think we are on the same page on this. My point wasnt to neglect getting new and better hardware, but that if Sprint stays on top of their network, then manufacturers will want to have their phones on Sprint. I am not saying that manufacturers dont want to now, but that we should keep things in perspective regarding the direction of Sprint. I, just like anyone else, am always looking for the next thing in technology that will enhance the capabilities of my phone usage.

Do you have any specific reference regarding the 7th being Samsung-heavy? I personally think we are going to see a HTC-related announcement. They are announcing now to try to retain customers who may consider switching to Verizon. It's a basic business strategy. Could be a little while before the phone is released.

At CES the president of Samsung made a speech about WiMax phones being announced at MWC. There is certainly roo for more, but this is the only thing confirmed. I've also heard from somebody at Sprint who told me Samsung would be the meat of the announcements at MWC for Sprint.

Samsung will unvail a new Galaxy line soon but Sprint desperately needs a new Evo (or equivalent) now, not later this summer or in two weeks they needed it yesterday!

All you hear about this month is V iPhone 4, Thunderbolt, New Verizon Palm Phone, Moto Atrix, Inspire 4G, hell even T-Mobile is getting some sort of new phone which I can't remember the name of at the moment but I read about this morning.

I love Sprint and I'll wait until they spill all the beans before I even consider the move but every time the ball gets passed to them they seem to fumble, they need to stop thinking like a Verizon or AT&T and start accepting they might not be able to get away with some of the shenanigans other bigger carriers with way better networks might I add pull on their customers.

This would be the ideal time for Sprint to let all the top carriers add their extra fees, change of policies etc... and then they come and boom... Evo 2 eat that! Something like that would make a statement and would minimize their customer loss.

Sprint I hate to say it but alot of people are leaving Sprint this month, like it or not you've kept silent at CES came back on with upgrade policy changes and have kept completely silent on any relative phone what so ever. The shift is not a good phone, I'm sorry. I just really hope their enough under Blaine's sleeve to even break even from all the stunts you've pulled in recently we'll have to wait and see but it's not looking good.

I agree for the most part. Improve the network and the rest will follow. I think Sprint had a great line-up last year. I think Sprint should just focus on one or 2 flagships and improve their Wimax. It's a bit disappointing that its moving at a slower pace. Even more disappointing that I work in a Wimax city and have to stand in certain spots in my building just to get a 4G signal.

I am happy enough with my network to not make budget cutbacks so I can switch to a pricier carrier. So, I'll just have to wait for them to release new phones and be happy with the wait, I guess.

I, too, and DONE with Samsung. I'd love to have an HTC product, but I'm not giving up my gorgeous Epic screen for the Evo's.

I agree. Wouldn't make much sense to have a part announcement before an event announcement imo. MWC I believe is generally for the foreign overseas crowd also. Doesn't mean they won't announce anything but I am not expecting a whole lot out of Sprint.

Generally CTIA is when they will announce devices. However since they have center stage in NY tomorrow they might go happy with announcements.

I personally am hoping for network improvements announced. Would LOVE a country-wide rollout of Wimax within the next 6 months.

I also think an HTC device will be announced.

Another big announcement I would be happy to see is sharing unl data between devices. Perhaps an extra $10 charge on my account to be able to add a tablet to my plan. Even though I don't rly like the super slow speeds I have with Sprint if that were the price I would grab a tab from them in a heartbeat.

I also would like to see tablets being announced. Only if the above is true though. Their current tablet plans are terrible and I would prefer to grab one from Verizon if they don't improve those options soon.

But I rly hope this isn't as stupid as the Sprint ID and that they actually have good merit to throw this little shindig.

IMO, jump ship while you can. If you had a 1400 Everything Data family plan with 4 smartphones and a 20% corp discount, when you activate new phones your bill will jump from:
$104+16+16=$136
to
$104+20+30+30=$184

Its only $1152 over the 2 year contract. just a "small change"
Now that the "Premium data fee" is on all smartphones, IMO it wont be long until there is a 4G fee.

I have priced all 4 major carriers for 4 smartphones and the minutes and that I need and want and Sprint is still cheaper with the $10 added to each line. For me it is the best value with service that is better than ATT and Tmo and the same as VZW.

Verizon had the decency to let you use your new every two, one last time. If you dont need unlimited mobile to mobile, or a good chunk of your friends are on Verizon/ATT.... you can save money by switching. And you might find yourself on a much faster network.

I do not have a land line, so while most calls I make will be mobile-to-mobile (included with Sprint), I could quite possibly go over 450 minutes. Lol, one call to the electric company will do that, and I can't use my phone at work so I have to use my cell phone. I just don't like thinking about having to monitor each call because I might "go over," and I certainly don't want to think about data caps or counting texts. Idk, I'm happy with the phones I have and the service I have. It didn't make or break me that Sprint didn't come out with The Next Big Thing yesterday. It certainly didn't make me want to switch. The options listed above were for me. My point is, you can get an Extremely nice phone(Iphone, HTC Thunderbolt, Atrix, WP7... etc), on a faster network , and pay less than you do with Sprint. IF you dont need unlimited mobile to mobile or unlimited texts.

If you are on the edge of passing 450 cell minutes a month to non-verizon friends.... then dont go to verizon.

If you are close to 2GB in data usage dont go to ATT.

Yeah, dont switch if it doesnt make sense to switch. But I am saying, reevaluate your situation, now that Sprint is adding a surcharge to their Everything Data plan by $10. Its crap, that its a surcharge and included in the cost of the Everything Data plan.

The name is misleading/false advertising. "Everything Data", but if you have a smartphone, we charge you $10 for "Premium Data"

The beautiful thing is that we have choices. For me, it is much more economical to stay with Sprint. I would easily go over 450 minutes and 2 GB of data use. But that is me.

I guess I don't understand why people trash other companies or try to make someone feel stupid for staying with a company. If a tiered plan works for someone and is cheaper then I say go for it! I'm all about saving money, believe me If it is ever more expensive for me to stay with Sprint then I'll be gone, too. At the present time I have no reason to leave. People do have choices. Which is why Sprint lost 10 MILLION post paid customers from 2005 till mid 2010. In 2010, they actually gained 533K customers in the last 6 months!

So what did Sprint do with their new found momentum.
1) Charge a Premium Data fee to 4G phones despite the fact that their CEO said that 4G cost them less and they could offer it at no additional cost
2) Remove Corporate discounts on additional lines in the family plan
3) Charge a $10 premium to all smart phones, despite the fact that these smartphone users are on a plan called "EVERYTHING DATA"
4) Take away our annual upgrade, before all the EVO owners got their chance to use it.
5) Hire David Blain to introduce an "Impossible 2 screen phone" 2 screens! Impossible! (LG Env Touch?). David Blain also requested that no one take pictures of him at the "Unveiling" (Embarassed anyone)

WHEN Sprint charges $10 for 4G phones, will you still stick by Sprint? IMO, that will happen sooner than later.
