I am also curious about this app. SSN isn't a big deal, mostlikely because they have to comply with some FCC rules to identify the person taking transactions.

I would love to hear some reviews about this app, I would like to save my business some money if it is worth it, so I'm giving this a BUMP

I for damned sure wouldn't swipe my card through your square if they didn't have your SSN on record.

Yeah, it's legit. I got my free card reader from them a couple weeks back, did a couple transactions. Smooth and cheap. And Tempusfugut had it right, they need your identity if you're taking money. That's required in America, either personal SSN or business tax ID (which they allow you to sign up with on Square if you choose for business purposes). It's also to send you your yearly statements for taxes.
