Ive Managed to SSH into my Samsung captivate and find were the notification tones are and im trying to replace one of them but it wont let me because the CHMOD to the notification folder and the sounds inside are not 777 and when i try to set them to 777 it will not letme, so i was wondering if there was a way to do this so i can overwrite files. thanks for the help.

Have you executed "su" first?
If this doesn't help, it's because the partition is mounted ro, you have to mount it rw to be able to write to it. Follow this to do it :
