St. Louis 4G

@Stepintothedark

How close are you to Pointe Elementary school?
I live right behind the Auto Zone on Telegraph....

I cycle past Pointe Elementary about twice a week..

well damnit.. it sounds like I live right between those two towers lol... and no 4g for me, I WONDER if I bought a signal booster.. if that'd work, but that's a decent amount of cash to buy and then not have it work...

How about Eureka?? Specifically, approx 2 miles southeast of Eureka on Jim Weber Rd near Twin Rivers Rd (on a high hill--620ft MSL)??

Sprint's map shows it's good for 3g.

Thanks for the info, I greatly appreciate it. Sprint has been less than helpful and no DSL available in that location. Apparently, everything goes live on the 6/27 according to the local stores I've talked to.

No 4G here either and I live right across the elementary school :)

I have one bar of 4G also, I'm at work in the Central West End. I did a speed test and clocked 3036 kbps for download speed and 1007 for upload. I didn't even know 4G was available here until I saw this thread, thanks. I'll try it at my house later and see (right by Anheuser Busch/Lemp Mansion.

What kind of range can we look for out of a tower? Telegraph and Yaeger should be covered by the Baumgartner tower?

What about I-64 and Green Mount over in O'fallon, Illinois?

Great thread, thanks for the inside info.

Hey ClearGuy,

Any luck for 4G in the Wentzville MO area? If not, do you know roughly what time frame?

Thanks for your help.

I live in the Southwest Garden area, and I can usually connect to 4G but I only get either 0 or 1 bar, and it's not that much faster than the 3G. I suppose I usually get 2MB/s rather than 1MB/s, which is faster, but not the kind of speeds most people expected, especially since the 4G kills the battery. I think anyone who buys the Evo for the 4G will be sorely disappointed. I'm happy with the Evo, but let's not kid ourselves that it's a true 4G phone yet.

i to am wondering if/when 4g will hit fairview heights/o'fallon/belleville illinois area =/

Me too, nRRe! Guess we'll find out soon enough...

ClearGuy: Any news on the Illinois side? Belleville, Columbia, Waterloo?

all I have to say is, if they don't add 4g coverage here on the east side of the river, then it's a damn shame. and I don't mean adding 4g coverage all the way out to Mt Vernon, boy I can wish though, but say Fairview Heights, O'Fallon, Collinsville, seriously if St Peters can have 4g some 25 miles out of Downtown, then why can't Collinsville where you can see the arch?

There is amazing speed right at Craig and Olive (right where the Verizon store is) and 270 and Olive. I just moved from the Central West End (Maryland and Taylor) and got a good signal there.

There's a tower just East of the Loop at Goodfellow and Delmar. I get a maxed out signal there, however just 1.5 mile west around Big Bend and Delmar it fades out.

I just moved to U City by Midland and Delmar and get no 4g and just 1-2 bars of 3g. I'm surprised because Clayton is right around the corner. I'm really hoping we get better coverage here in U City.

Looks like the sprint map has been updated to show the areas of 4g coverage in STL. It's like they went out of their way to avoid coverage along 270 south of 64. That or it's in the works still.

something tells me that it's in the works, or at least I'd HOPE it's in the works. they may have to put up some new towers though to help boost coverage along 270, as it doesnt appear to be the best.

I have 4g here at my house in o fallon, mo. It's because there's about 250,000 people that live in a relatively small area here in st charles co. despite the fact that the metro east is closer to downtown, it's not a very dense area. That's my guess at least...

Dammit, I just looked at their coverage map.. typed in my address... 4g stops about .5 miles from me... :(

when are they planning on expanding out and filling up holes or is this it?

ok but then why not any 4g in St Charles city...

nice guess, don't get me wrong and it's as good of a reason that I've heard of, but it still seems weird to me.

/sadface

I assume over the next year or so they will continue to expand 4g out from the main areas they turn on. It'd be lame to have very little 4g coverage outside of major cities but ignore most of their metro areas.

Got this tweet from @svinge, a Sprint 4G rep, after I asked about the possibility of St. Louis' 4G coverage expanding after its launch:

Sprint #4G coverage will continue to expand in launch mrkts & acrossU.S. What U see in a 4G city 2day willbe dif next month&so on

Looks more encouraging!
