stand alone sms apps?

my phone has been rooted and mod'd to the point of no return, and in this process the stock messaging application was deleted, and replaced with handcent, which is a great sms app but it lags my phone to no end. are there any other sms apps out there that can run on there own? i tried chomp and GOsms and neither of them work (gosms needs the stock app to run)

any help? i HATE having to wait 30 seconds just for my typing to stop lagging so i can send the message.

Shit happens. I guess we'll have to make do until a proper update/fix is released. Have you sent your remarks to the developer to egg him on?
