Why would you buy an iPhone ripoff only to put iOS back onto the phone? Why not just buy the new iPhone :confused::confused:

Hi danjmarsden, and welcome to AF :)

In principle the thing to look for is the UMTS 2100 band (UK 3G) being supported, as that's the band that 3 UK use.

However, I'd be careful even if that is on the specifications, as a quick search revealed a number of reviews on shopping sites saying that it doesn't work with 3 UK. I didn't check whether these were independent reports, or the same thing recycled, but it's not encouraging.

I can confirm that it does work with 3uk, also orange uk works

Hey everyone, ordered this phone today, should be here sometime next week. I've watched many reviews, done tons of research, and crawled the interwebs for info. I have two questions about the device: 1. Is there a possibility of my carrier shutting down service to the phone? I've never heard of this happening, but I saw it mentioned on some forum site. I currently have T-Mobile, but I may soon switch to a no-contract Straight Talk plan (At&T) 2. Where in the world can I find a case (other than the one it's shipped with) that will fit this phone??? I realize iPhone 4 cases won't fit, due to the volume, lock, and power buttons all being on the opposite side. If there aren't any, what are my other options besides holsters? Thanks!

I've just bought this phone and I'm on Orange UK.

Instead of showing the G/3G/H signal next to the signal bars it is showing 'R'. I've contacted my operator and confirmed that roaming is off on my account. However I cannot access the internet unless I turn roaming on on the phone or on WiFi.

I can make and receive calls and texts but just no internet. I've checked the APN and it's correct.

Anyone experienced this before?

Problem with many of these counterfeits and WCDMA/UMTS 3G. Often they just don't have it at all and are GSM/EDGE only, or they have TD-SCDMA which is only used by China Mobile. If you have a phone like this, it won't work with 3 in the UK, and won't work with other 3G only carriers. Or you may be able to do phone calls and SMS, but you won't be able to connect to the internet with them.

Other thing, $200 is a lot of money for fake Apple iPhone, they generally sell for around equivalent of $50 here. Especially for something that's going to have no manufacturer support, no warranty, no updates, no developer support, and often the materials and workmanship can be downright shoddy.

Star W007
1. 3.5 inch capacitive screen, 480*320
2. MTK MT6575 1GHz processor, GPU: PowerVR SGX531
3. Support GSM & WCDMA 3G network
4. 512mb RAM / 4GB ROM
5. 3.0MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera
6. Support WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS
7. Android 4.0 OS

It is quite a basic low-end spec for a 4.0 ICS Android phone. Expect it to be quite laggy, that screen is no "retina", and the camera will be extremely poor. But is typical for cheapo Android phone in China. Usually around $40-$60 retail.

Yeh, it's something that can happen occasionally. Using an odd Chinese phone on a European carrier, it believes it's roaming when it isn't. As long as it isn't actually roaming, just turn on data roaming and you should be OK. The carrier won't charge you for roaming, because it isn't roaming. They're probably just pining for China Mobile or China Unicom.

If it's a counterfeit iPhone, 3 won't be interested anyway.

I had the opposite happen, had a UK Samsung Galaxy but using it in China with a Chinese SIM. It would sometimes show the R roaming indicator, but not always. It wasn't a problem, the phone worked just fine.

Thanks, it seems to have almost sorted itself out - it only shows as roaming when in my front room! Anywhere else it has signal. We have WiFi in the house anyway so if it decides to play up it should be fine.

My girlfriend likes it a lot more than her old LG Optimus 3D up to now!

It's a great little phone... I've had it for a while... I got it to get my girlfriend off of apple phones and on the android wagon... it does actually have a lot of bands at its disposal... if you have 3g issues, remember that only one of the two sim card slots is 3g and the 3g bands available are 800/850/1900/2100 despite the advertising. rooting and cwm are available for this phone. i found it HERE.

If you want an iOS looking ROM try MIUI or use Espier Launcher, or Joypad if that one is available, seems to be an Android Area 51 brew.
