Star Wars: The Old Republic

I am not sure how being origin exclusive is going to hurt anything? It's an MMO with a monthly fee. People that want it will get it. I doubt online store exclusivity is going to play into most people's decision to buy.

So what you're saying is you're willing to have multiple Third-party apps that take up unneeded space and eat up resources for each game?

I'm happy with Steam, was happy with D2D but their prices and lack of service sent me poof. I'm not about to have three (or more) Distribution apps on my PC for the sole purpose of one game.

Origin is EA's new game store/app that is supposed to be like Steam. I'll prob be buying Battlefield 3 off of the Origin store

...but as far as SW:TOR goes right now, it is completely stand alone (At least in beta)

No its like, if you use Steam, imagine Origin like Steam but with a lot more problems.

TOR won't be standalone once its released, its stated in EA's page that Origin WILL be used in order to play TOR.

I've already heard issues about Origin failing to take/authenticate Credit Cards, refusing to take Battlefield CD Keys.

Take a look at it will you, you may be surprised at how badly EA has screwed up this time.

Since this is about TOR....when exactly was the release date official, its sometime in December right?

Use Origin myself and Ive had no problems. However I did buy Battlefield BC2 off of steam and had all kind of authentication errors. I had to repurchase.

I honestly don't really mind. Only one app is going to be required to run at any given time, unless you are playing multiple games simultaneously on one machine (dubious). If this resource is hard disk space, that is hardly precious anymore. What do these apps run, 100mb? Let's be generous and say each app is 500mb and we have 5 of them totaling 2.5 gigs. When a 2TB internal disk is about $60 on sale (or $100 regular price) that 2.5gigs (which I estimated WAY overkill for dramatization) isn't going to phase you.

There isn't an official release still. Basically "sometime in 2011" is what was said. For all intents and purposes, this reads as December 2011, at least until Bioware says otherwise.
 
Gamestop is showing a release of December 31, 2011 instead of unknown.

If it's really going to hit the streets this year that's the day I expected anyway.

All I know is I will be thrilled to get it. I've been getting tired of Rift and have been toying with going back to EVE.
 
Well, Bioware has announced that it is some time in 2011. December 31 is a pretty safe in terms of guessing. I personally think it would be utterly foolish to launch an MMO new year's eve, but I guess there are worse ideas.
 
Just got an email stating my EA account has been transferred to an Origin account. Looks like things are starting to come together! ;)

Err something like that. I was confused completly but was able to piece it together after an hour or two searching the Wookiepedia.

KOTOR, the first game I know we all came to love took place in...3,956 BBY, during the closing of the Old Sith Wars.

KOTOR II, took place during 3,951 BBY, during the Old Republic Era and again, Old Sith Wars.

TOR will take place, instead of one year, it will span from 3,643 to 3,641 BBY, which is during the Inter-Sith Wars period.

So technically speaking, its anywhere from 308-321 years after the events of KOTOR, KOTOR one being 318-321, and KOTOR II 308-311. This is btw, after the events, TOR doesn't take place before, its after.

Honestly, the only question that comes to mind is where does all the technology go, you see The Clone Wars showing impressive stuff yet in the Galactic Civil War, you see these...err, I don't know, lower tech things? *Yet are somehow stronger than their predecessors, what?*

Newest trailer, besides the stupid Origin thing, makes me seriously want to reconsider...

Wow, you did your research. I just checked the FAQs on the Old Republic's site and it says 300 years.

I applaud your thoroughness.

I just noticed this and didn't see it discussed here. Apparently, we will not need Origin to install, run, or update the game.
