Starting Timer Now

Does anyone else get a system message after a restart saying, 'Starting Timer Now!' or is is just me?
Yes! I have no idea what it means but it is very creepy. Have you found anything out? I have a Note 8 and at the bottom in a little gray bubble it says "Starting a timer now!" I have no idea what it is but I definitely don't like it.

No it doesn't. See down at the bottom?

If it doesn't happen in safe mode, then it's an app generating the message. I guess you could try disabling the apps one at a time until it goes away.

FWIW, I found some vague reference to a web-logger, but that was just some github shared code. I doubt it's what you're seeing.

My S9+ was doing the same thing. I think there is a present timer in your clock app. I feel like that's the only reason a timer would start or say starting.

There is a timer/counter on your phone that will show you how long it has been running since the device powered on.
Menu --> Settings-->Device Information--> Status (steps for the Galaxy s5).
This value is set back to zero when you turn the phone off and restart it again.

Aha. With the S7, it's under Settings/About Phone/Status/Up Time. So I guess there is no way to stop the message from appearing.

Yes, I think we're stuck with it. Maybe the newer Galaxies have a feature to turn off the notification but still keeps the up time.

I get the grey bubble message 'Starting a timer now!' about 30 secs after starting my S9 Samsung android, but it shuts off my phone if I'm not using it. So I have to stream Spotify on 'mute' to keep the phone on. If any app gives me a notification with sound, the phone immediately turns off. Anybody know how I can fix this? Thanks

how long has this been happening? have you tried the phone in safe mode? safe mode prevents 3rd party apps from running. so if it stops in safe mode, then we know an app you installed is doing this. you will then need to figure out which one is the culprit. start with the most recent app you installed and work your way backward.

if it continues in safe mode then something is up in your system os and you might want to consider doing a factory reset.
