Static feedback from headphone jack

I am getting noticeable feedback from the headphone jack. It is a crackling or a static sound, and is particularly obvious on lower volume (it does not scale up with higher volumes). Does anyone else have this problem? I am thinking that it might just be my phone since I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem, in which case I will try to get it switched out for a new one.
 
I don't think the issue you are having is the same as mine, but just in case I'll share. I used the headphone jack for the first time yesterday at the gym. I was using some behind the ear earphones that I have always used at the gym with both mp3 players and my Droid X. They have always worked perfectly for those but with the S3 I had constant dropping of sound and static like you mentioned.

I then tried the cord in my car that I have used to connect my phone/mp3 player to the stereo on the way home and had the same happen again. So, I thought for sure it was something wrong with my S3's headphone jack. That is until I got home and tried the earbuds that came with the phone, and they work perfectly. No matter how I turned or twisted the cord, I could not get the sound to drop or produce static. So, I'm at a loss. Long story short, have you tried the phone with the earbuds that came with it? And does anyone else have any recommendations?
 
I've had no issues with my K701's or Brainwavz Pro Alpha's or phonak 122s. One Over the ear and two, in-ear. No Hiss, static or pop. If you're hearing a hissing type noise that stays but never increases with volume that could be the microphone from your IEMs. You can also try to put cord from your IEMs over your ear if you wear them hanging from your ears. Perhaps the DAC is more powerful from your phone vs your other DAPs.
 
Make sure that when you connect your headphones that you push them all the way in until the headphones click and lock into place. If you dont do this, both issues discussed are possible.

The samsung earbuds seem to work better with the phone.
 
Okay, thank you guys for the responses. I will do some further followup after I have a chance to check the Samsung earbuds, and after I can check off the rest of these suggestions. If it is just the brand of earbuds/earphones, that would be pretty ridiculous. I have several decent earphones that I should be able to use instead of having to go brand-specific. I don't even know how that would make sense, both technically and business-wise...

+1 to this. I was getting ridiculous crackling in the car until I pushed the 3.5 mm cord way down and heard a click. I thought I broke something but actually it just clicked into place, which I think will help hold the cord in.
 
I got my phone recently, 2 weeks ago I guess. I have a similar issue, and wondering if you also experience this on your phone (I guess in addition to your static). Using any other headphone I tried (non-stock), when I plug in the jack (all the way of course), the contacts don't appear to connect properly. So, if you move the plug to the left, it appear to connect, if you let go, it appear not to connect well. This is also affecting the auto-headphone connection by the system.

Now, if I take the Samsung headphone and plug it in, it works perfectly, sort of. If I move it to the left, it still works, if I move it to the right, it stops working. If I move the cable around, it does cause static. If I shake the phone around, there is no static, so the connection appears solid (without physical movement of plug).

This may be related to your issue, where the contact is not good. Can you try the same and see this is happening. Can anyone using with headphone confirm this is a hardware issue with the headphone jack, or is this a common issue with the S3 headphone jack, where certain plug types work, and some don't. The ones I've tried where it doesn't work has the 2 lines only, the Samsung one has 3 lines.
 
I'm getting an issue of crackling/static whenever I play any sort of audio on my S3. I've only had it for a day but this is really troubling me. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? And particularly, how to fix it??
 
I've been having the exact same problem with my Samsung galaxy note 2. I did some research come to find out that most galaxies have this same exact problem. It's our phones that suck.

The best thing I found to do is to hit it lightly against your knee or against the table near the headphone jack. My phone now works better
 
Sorry to revive an old post, but I believe I may have found part of the cause of this.

The clue was in the jack plugs for the samsung standard earplugs (which produce no static), compared to that of my own headphones (which do produce static). The samsung standard earplugs jack plug has three plastic rings on it. My own headphone only has two. Some research showed that the three-ring plug is called a "4 pole jack plug": it has another pole to be able to transmit microphone audio. My own headphones only have 3 poles, so the galaxy's microphone receiver pole actually outputs as static into my headphone. To resolve this, I bought an 8$ adapter called "3.5mm Jack Headphone Microphone Splitter". Plugged it into my phone, plugged my headphones into the audio part of the splitter, and I've got sound without static. Yay!
