This may be a daft question but I'll ask anyway!

Im using gravitybox to hide my status bar clock.
I was wondering if it is possible to show the clock only when an app is open?
Various launchers have that option, but it requires root access so far as I know.

I'm using that feature on Nova launcher, but just on my main screen where I already have a clock / weather widget.

Thanks.
I didn't know nova launcher could do that! I had been using it but switched back to the built in CyanogenMod launcher. May have to switch back to nova if there is no other way!

I'd switch back to nova. It lets you import your current setup so it's fairly painless.
I can't think of an Xposed module that would remove the clock only from the launcher
