Help Status Icon with Check Mark

Intermittently, the Status Icon on my Inspire changes from an up and down arrow under the speed character (H+, E or G) to a white check mark under the speed character. When this happens, the phone tells me it has no data connection, and I usually have to reboot or power cycle the phone to recover the data connection.

Anyone else seeing this?
 
I get that when im on wifi. I read somewhere here that it means that H+ network is available but not being used. And when I disconnect from wifi it takes a few seconds but then goes to the H+ with up/down arrows
 
I see it when I'm at work at times. There are WIFI signals here, but I'm not connected to any of the many secure WIFI systems here. I walk outside when I go to lunch, and as I'm driving out of the parking lot the check mark still shows, and I have no data connection. I have to reboot the phone to connect to AT&T data.

When at home and connected to my home wireless, if I turn WIFI off on the Inspire, it will then show H+ and available data connection.
 
Pretty sure it means u got auto connected to wifi. I get a check mark under my 3G symbol when im connected to any wifi.
 
What about an icon with just a check mark. I've never had a smartphone of any kind so this is all new to me. I just wanna make sure that I am not using data when I shouldn't be.

Check mark means mobile data isn't being used, up/down arrows= mobile data
 
This happened to me a few weeks ago at the beach. There was low signal reception and I had the H+ with just the check mark. I had wifi off (not like I was gonna get Wifi from the ocean) and all my friends had Edge connectivity using the same company. It was a whole weekend without internet, never knew why
 
I get HSPA with the check mark when it is ready to use but I have it turned off, regardless of Wifi on or off.

Then I get the dull arrows when I turn on Mobile Data, then it goes to lit up arrows when data is actually being used.
