Status on Gtalk

I was wondering if,
1. there is any way that I could avoid using Google Talk on my phone altogether.
2. If avoiding google talk is not possible, how do I set my status as invisible?

I tried checking on the phone regarding both the options and could not find any method of fixing it.

Go into the app, click on the green bar next to your name. You will see "Available," tap that and choose invisible or sign out.
