Root Stay Awake

Has anyone figured out how to make the Stay awake setting stick after a reboot? Settings/Applications/Development... Mine is always cleared after a reboot. It used to stick on froyo, but is not with gingerbread. Thanks.

Edit: installing stay awake from the market seems to work, but causes another issue. Damn thing won't turn off! However, I then went into the display options in the normal settings menu, and set my preferred time-out.

After a couple of reboots and inserting the usb cable, waiting, and reinserting, it all seems to work. Now display settings show as nothing selected, but it seems to work. What a pain, but it is what I was looking for...

When plugged in the screen doesn't turn off, when it is unplugged, it turns off after 30 secs (what I picked after fiddling).

Edit Again:

Nope doesn't seem to work anymore... any suggestions?

For anyone wondering... I was looking for this functionality for when I am driving and have the phone charging in the truck. It's a 32-year-old truck in excellent shape, but there is no clock, and the push button am/fm radio (gasp) doesn't work well. This little prevail is my little companion for directions, music, news, information, and time.

Keeping the truck just the way it is

Well, I am currently trying Caffeine from the market. It does the job perfectly so far. It is configurable, and does have a notification icon up top, but you can hide it in the settings if you prefer.

Now I plug it in, and it lights up and stays awake. unplug and it goes to sleep. but also survives a reboot. Set it, forget it. Have to watch how it affects performance.
