Just a heads up. Not much details as of yet but they say the database containing your user info has been hacked.

This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information," Newell wrote. "We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. I hope the emails were hashed somehow, I get enough spam as it is, the last thing I need is some immature kid using my email to sign up for a bunch of spam sites.

Changed a few sites passwords that use that email. Also changed my steam p/w. Shall see if Steam guard is worth its "salt" lol .... cough

Change ya paypal , ebay , Origin , Warcraft etc.....

Are you given a steam forum account when you sign up to steam by default? If not, I don't think I signed up for one. I've changed a few of my passwords anyway and I've the 2-step verification set up on my gmail account so I should be ok if they do have my details.

I'm pretty confident steam guard will keep our accounts safe. I don't reuse passwords either. So I guess I need to keep a closer eye on my bank statements for a while.

I cancelled the card associated with my steam account this morning. Might be a bit premature/over the top, but I've been a victim of card fraud before so I'd rather play it safe.

BTW...why hasn't Steam tried to contact me and inform me of this possible intrusion?!?

All I'm getting is Ads for Skyrim, nothing like the popup above.

Forum accounts ARE indeed seperate from Steam accounts If you catch my drift. BUT like Gabe said , the database stolen included the information of both.


Gabe is quite trustworthy in my book. He single handedly owns the company , no one has fingers in that pie but him. (giggedy). The fact he took under a week to tell people is pretty good and actually give solid advice on what to do about it to try and protect yourselves somewhat is commendable. Remember it took Sony 1 month to let anyone know.

That article makes me relieved to have made all of my steam-related purchases with cash at the store. Plus I have about a thousand different passwords, they can have my steam account lol.
