Root [Sticky suggestion] Noobies check this out

With the influx of new people joining our happy family here at Android Forums I thought it would be prudent to post this. If you are new to the world of Droid X flashing and want to know what the terms you hear mean then your first stop should be here,

U D G

Here you can learn about rooting, roming, theming, and sbf'ing. Your next step should be to learn how to sbf your phone BEFORE you attempt to make any changes. This is VERY important! learning how to save your phone from being bricked can save you a lot of headaches.

Learn this process. Once you have learned how to sbf with your eyes closed you may then move on to learning how to flash roms, themes, mods, etc. As always, should you have questions, we are here to help you through anything.

While you're learning all this stuff you will have the time to get to know your DX. Get familiar with your home screens, notification bar, dock bar, app drawer, etc.

And finally, have patients. Take your time and don't rush through anything. Don't Be impatient. Your DX isn't going anywhere. Take all the time you need learning all the processes involved in moding your new toy. Again, we are here to answer your questions or help you through any unforeseen troubles.

Best advice I can give, as a newbie to a newbie, is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS work with a full battery.
You never know what's going to happen.

is your keyboard sticky, too? j/k
might be a good plan to sticky this thread to let the new members know where to find info this weekend

Fair enough, looks to me it is already posted and stickified (is that even a word?) my coffee hasn't started working, brain not in gear and my foot is resting on the clutch pedal....

Sorry for the confusion guys. I know that rooolers guide is already stickied. This was just to give our new friends a starting point so they know where to look and what to do first. I see too many people come in asking the question "where do I begin". I thought I would give them something to guide them to our finely written tutorials.....;)

And Tboomer you're right. I forgot to mention to also ALWAYS make sure you have a full battery.

EDIT: As an after thought, I prolly could have written this up better. My brain isn't at full capacity yet.....lol.

(cougar slithers away in embarrassment)

well the thought is nice, but i think the big red Sticky: at the top of the page would be sufficient enough for people to look into, some just rather ask the question than look, and thats fine, we dont mind answering the same question over and over, because we become masters at knowing the correct answer and dont have to think about it, or look in notes :p

Notes? We have notes? I don't take notes. I remember everything I read....lol......yeah......and you're an astronaut too.

But anyway. that's the reason I thought we should put a "starting Point" thread of some kind. I know people keep coming in and asking others what to so first even with the stickies up there. Which in my opinion, and it doesn't count, they shouldn't need to ask if we have stickies up there. That just says " I want to do this but don't want to take the time to search and read for myself"

And that in itself leads us where? newbies asking where they messed up.

Sadly, no, but it's all good. I just tried to be a good member and help out others the best I can. But what do I get for it? I get scorned and ridiculed. That's ok, I know how it is. I'm just the new guy. What was I thinking?

Coming on here and voicing my opinions. The nerve of me huh?

(cougar pulls the back of his shirt over his head and raises his hands yelling "I AM CORNHOLIO" while he heads off to make another cup of coffee)

yeah man your input is well deserved and needed, you felt like people needed something new to look at, its understandable and i for one am grateful you took the time to think about that. but there is no point in stickieing a thread where the topic is already stickied, im sure you understand lol, but really keep voicing your opinion, we will listen :)

I know that. I was being a smarta$$. Duh. Did't you read between the parenthesis? lmao.....me thinks me drink too much coffee. But i'm ok now....really.

Me? no way. I just get into my moods when I've been drinking too much coffee. Doctors say it's a stimulant but I don't think of it that way.

I look at my little cup of golden goodness and think " coffee, that warm, soothing, refreshing drink"......:D

WHAO!....dude......you tryin to throw me into an epileptic fit?......lmfao.

EDIT: Does anyone know where Steven is? I knew it. Give the guy a little power and he slacks off.....lol.....:p

i think steven is on vacation... might be wrong, but i think he is, this coming saturday i will be on vacation as well, i will respond to PM's but i dunno about messages on here, cause the phandroid app makes it difficult to navigate, or because i use pc's for the forums and not the app that much, navigation through it isnt easy, but the thread very much so is easy to read and what not

Yeah, the Phandroid app is cool and all but there is no way to save your page and you have to navigate the whole thing every time you use it. I prefer to use my browser and hit my saved page.....

i havent been on vacation in 11 years bud, that means no breaks from work, no beach trips, no trips to the lake for a week, i need this lol
