Help Stock Address App Help

I don't know if this is the right spot for this or not.

I have a LG Optimus T running stock 2.2

You know when you tap on a contacts icon it bring up a bar that shows that you can call them, text them, email then ect...

Is it possible to change the email icon without having to do a factory reset to the phone?

*moved to LG Optimus T forum*

Changing icons at the system level is only possible with rooted devices and can be very tricky. Even a factory data reset will not change the icons. If I may ask, is this a purely cosmetic change or is there a reason you want to change them?

Ok, let me rephrase the question. When I first boot up the phone after a factory reset, then I tap on say my wife's contact I get a bar that shows the following things I could do: phone her, address book (view her contact profile), text her, or email her. Originally the email popped up the choice to email her from the gmail app, or the system email app. You could choose to make one or other the "default" app to send from. Right now I have it as gmail, I want it to be the other app.

I understand your moving this topic to the Optiums T section, but I'm about the only one that sifts thru there from time to time. No threads or comments have been made there in a while, which is why I put it in an area that many people could see.

Gotcha.

Originally the email popped up the choice to email her from the gmail app, or the system email app. You could choose to make one or other the "default" app to send from. Right now I have it as gmail, I want it to be the other app.

Go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications and tap on the 'all' tab, scroll down to gmail and tap it. Select clear defaults. Then the next time you try to send an email for that contact it will ask for the default again. Or, just don't set a default if you want to use both.

...which is why I put it in an area that many people could see.

I understand that as well, however there are two problems. One is that the Android Lounge is for general android discussion and pretty staunchly enforced. (I get reminded very frequently by the powers that be about making sure threads get moved ... you wouldn't want me to be in trouble with the boss, would you? ;) )

The other is more important, IMHO. Not all iterations of Android behaves in the same way. The differences in core menus between phone manufacturers launchers (ie. TouchWiz, Blur, Sense UI and whatever Sony, LG and the others put on as default) can confuse the heck out of users with other models when you say go to menu>settings>something>something else and the option isn't there, or called "this setting" instead of "that setting". That's why we have to be pretty vigilant about organization.

If you ever have a concern about a question not getting enough eyes on it, just PM a guide or Mod. They're all top notch people and will do whatever it takes to get your question answered.

Ya I consider myself pretty savoy when it comes to Android devices. I've own two now (MyTouch 3G Slide, and now the Optimus T). So I do know that there are many differences between many manufacturers.

I'll have to remember that in the future ;) There are a few small things I can't always remember because I only use device for months at a time.
