Help Stock and Google Chrome no Desktop Agent support?

I have gone through the Stock and Chrome settings and I can't figure out how to automatically display everything as if I were on a desktop. The "request desktop site" doesn't even work and even if it did, why would I need to request every time?

I am using Opera because I think it is by far the best mobile browser for powerful phones..

But Opera is not recognizing speech recognition from the fixed google search bar at the top. Only Chrome and Stock browser.

Did they purposely remove desktop agent from stock and crhome? That would seem absolutely absurd... I must be missing something.
 
At this point the UA string option is not available on Chrome for android beta. Many people want it to be available so I would assume it would be available in a future update.
 
check out ICS browser + it is basically the stock browser with some more options (one being able to set the client to desktop in the options)

but as of now, like others said, chrome and stock dont have the option for some reason.
