Stock Android by every manufacturer

Wouldn't it be great if every manufacturer would release an Android phone every year with only the pure and most recent stock Android! :D

Does anybody know why they all have to use their own skins?

They say it adds value. I think some people will get used to one skin, and then just buy a phone with the same skin the next time they come to buy. It's easier for them to just stick with the same rather than learn a new skin, which I'm sure most people would view as a completely new operating system. It's a way to intimidate people into brand loyalty. For early adopters, it's not much of an issue as they're pretty tech-savvy, but now that more and more average people are buying these kinds of phones, I think it'll start benefiting them soon enough. I think a lot of people would like a plain vanilla Android, but you've got to see how that would make it too easy for customers to buy another manufacturer's phone the next time round.

i think its a carry over from winmo 6.1, the standard interface was horrible
the touchwiz on my fascinate reminds me a bit of sbp mobile shell
and the htc sense reminds me of pointui

I would rather they didn't. I don't like stock Android, but then I've got Sense which is generally thought to be one of the better skins. I tried Cyanogen and hated it. I flashed Gingerbread just to play with the "improved interface" and also hated it.

Because we (enthusiast forum users) do not represent the greater consumer market. We're a tiny fraction of a percent of the entire market. It's a common mistaken assumption by fans that they're some sort of majority.

Thanks guys,

It's just too bad that we don't have an option to disable the manufacturers skins. That would solve my problem.
For the time being I'll just continue to be happy with my Nexus One!

Cheers

I would love if they at least gave us the option. Pretty much any layout can be duplicated/installed on top of stock android if you know what you are doing. Everyone touts sense, but it REALLY isn't hard to get stock to look and run like sense...

couldn't you just install a launcher like adw or launcher pro and pretty much get the stock android experience, plus a few extras? i have an nexus one, so i don't have to deal with overlay software, but i run adw and it seems to completely takeover, so i would think it would do the same on an android with overlay software.

You can't uninstall them, but you certainly can use an alternate launcher which effectively disables them. Be advised, though, you also lose their custom widgets.

You certainly could. I was merely commenting on the people who have the mentality that android sucks without sense, while it isn;t hard to basically get sense running on your phone.

I have always been a stock kind of person that likes to have a fresh OS and work my way up. Even if I can remove a feature, it it still remains installed it bugs me to no end. If I can completely disable something, why not just let me not have it installed in the first place?

Stock Androids currently on sale

HTC - Nexus One, G2, MyTouch 3G or HTC Magic

Motorola - So far only Droid and Milestone

Samsung - Nexus S, Intercept. Original Galaxy, Moment, and Galaxy Spica were also stock.

LG -- LG doesn't have a UI actually, they just "theme" their Androids. While modified, the experience is still close to stock. Some exceptions, though, like the Optimus S for Sprint, whose Android is not even themed.

Huawei and ZTE --- Pretty much the same boat as LG. Phones ranged from themed, to just raw stock. The Huawei Ideos has Google design input, one can say, its probably the best representation of what Google's vision for a low end "People's" Android.
