Stock android security function

I am wondering if anyone is willing to post their experience with stock (manufacturer) android security function. To me this is quite important because unlike apps, this cannot be removed easily. I will start.

Samsung provides mobile tracking in the form of Samsung Dive.

Features: Mobile tracking (GPS), Remote Lock, Remote Wipe, sim card change notification.

Problems: The first 3 features requires a phone number in order to work. This means that if someone changes the sim card, they will stop working. Also, mobile tracking is only available in UK and Germany.

I have tried the first two features, and they do work, but requires internet connection (which is probably true for all other security apps). The last function is probably one of the most useful function - if someone changes the sim card, your phone will record the phone number of the sim card and send it off to recipients you have specified. Someone has posted on another forum previously stating that they managed to contact the new "owner" of the stolen phone and convince them it's stolen goods.

P.S. Sorry for the horrible sentence structures. My brain isn't working properly right now for some reason.

How else would it work? It can't transmit info without network access. It could possibly use WiFi and I could see the argument for supporting it here but relying solely on WiFi is iffy at best. Wouldn't SIM card change notification also rely a phone number?

These are issues for any tracking/recovery solutions which should be considered gravy IMO. The device itself should be secured to secure the user's data under the assumption that none of these solutions are completely foolproof.

By phone number I mean you need to know the number of the sim card currently in the card. Lookout security does not require you to know the number of the phone. So even if someone puts in a different sim card, the tracking function will continue to work.
