Thanks! Now how easy would this be to modify so I can download GTA3? I had a modified prop on my Triumph that I believe told the Play Store that my phone was a Thunderbird.

Go to the Evo 3D forums and search if not kindly ask for an unmodified build prop

I went to reddit and asked for an Evo 3D build.prop. Someone sent me one they're using on an ICS ROM that's based on the Evo V's ROM:

So since I don't know much about editing Android system files, would changing the "ro.product.model=PG86100" be all we need to change?

Thanks.

Thanks for the build.prop from the evo 3d. Changed these settings:

ro.product.brand=Sprint
ro.product.model=PG86100

from original:

ro.product.brand=virgin_mobile
ro.product.model=HTCEVOV4G

Changed it in both locations of build.prop(not sure if required)
Now I can play Six Guns without it saying my device is incompatible.

Awesome! Thanks so much!

Now I just need to root this sucker tomorrow and edit my prop file. Can't wait to try out GTA3. It ran poorly on my Triumph, but I imagine the Evo V can handle it quite well.

And there's Max Payne to look forward to on Thursday. :)

edit:

Hmm, it didn't seem to work for me. I'm downloading NOVA 3 to see if it works for that. But GTA3 is still listed incompatible. Maybe I changed the wrong values?

Unmonstro I'm not sure if you own GTA3, but could you see if it's listed as compatible in the Play Store now?

Thanks!

edit #2:

Ah, now I see that it isn't even compatible with the Evo 3D. So should I set my build.prop to something else? I know almost every game was compatible with the Thunderbolt prop I was using with my Triumph. Is there any negative to setting your phone to something else?

Thanks!

Well, I've been able to restore my GTA3 backup that I had from my Triumph's Titanium Backup, but I still can't get the Play Store to see my phone as compatible.

Can anyone help with modifying the build.prop? I'd like to be able to make it as universal as possible.

Thanks!

If this works then you are awesome! (heck, you're even awesome for trying to help even if it doesn't work)

I've been doing countless Google searches and forum scrounging to try and find settings that would work. I'll give this a shot and report back.

From my searching I thought that the line starting with "ro.build.fingerprint" was important as well. Or can I leave that as it is?

You can also give ES File Explorer a try. It's free and I have never had an issue using that instead of root explorer.

It didn't seem to work, at least not with these settings:

ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.brand=Samsung
ro.product.name=sodu
ro.product.device=crespo

The market still sees my phone as HTCEVOV4G

Should I try the Galaxy Nexus? I don't think it'll make a difference.

edit:

Tried the Galaxy Nexus, still no difference.

Should I try changing this as well:

ro.build.fingerprint=google/mysid/toro:4.0.2/ICL53F/235179:user/release-keys

Will it cause any harm?

are you guys clearing cache and dalvik cache after editing the build.prop. it may help. When I changed mine to get links in sms to open play store or youtube I had to clear my caches through recovery. Just a thought give it a try.
