Stock calendar

Newbie
Need some help here, why the stock calendar date won't update by itself? I mean the icon on home page.

Anyone?
 
Probably bc it's just an icon. Since most people probably use some sort of calendar widget, they didn't feel the need to make it a functioning icon like iOS has. Icons for Android OS may not even have that capability. I really don't know enough about the Android OS to know if that's accurate but I wanted to give you something. I agree it's annoying, but those are my best guesses.
 
Android's answer to this are widgets. No Android application can update its icon on-the-fly far as I know.
