Help Stock email app: Retention of read mail

Having searched around a bit and finding others with the same issue I have yet to find a solution. Maybe someone here can help. The problem is with the stock email app on the Samsung galaxy note 2.

The device is set up for a pop3 account (I use gmail for a separate account but that runs on the Gmail app). It is set to leave a copy on the server where I can download to the PC for master copies.

Clearly what is happening is that the PC is set to remove from the server but this also removes them from the phone. Now some emails I wish to keep on the phone so this deletion process is a pain.

What I want to do is choose when to delete email from the phone myself rather than have the phone check the server and decide for me. I may well have read them elsewhere but this doesn't mean I no longer need them on the phone.

Now im pretty good at setting stuff up the way I like it but this has totally confused me and seems illogical.
Any ideas?

I created a special folder on my phone to copy emails I need to preserve; gave it its own unique name.

Some users forward the contents of their inboxes to an online account such as mail.com, etc.

Thanks for the welcome and reply. I was thinking about this as a possible short term solution. I take it then that there is no way of setting the app to do it.

I may try another app. It is the only disappointment with an otherwise amazing piece of kit!

I used to have the same problem until I switched from POP3 to IMAP, which works much better when you use more than one device to read your email. IMAP was designed with this in mind, but although POP3 does support multi-device access in a kludgey way it was created with the assumption that mail would be moved from the server to the device you'd be reading it on.

You'd need to switch your PC to IMAP as well but once you've done it you won't regret it.
